Overview:
Department: Legal Mentor: Associate General Counsel/Assistant General Counsel/Senior Counsel, Corporate
Start Date: May 2024
Anticipated Duration: 8 weeks with possibility to extend
Compensation: Paid
Position Overview: Join a dynamic Legal Department and get the chance to gain experience in a wide range of areas of the law, including litigation, labor/employment, contracts, compliance, regulatory, corporate, intellectual property and transactional.
Responsibilities:- Review and prepare initial response to claim notices received by Leviton Coordinate fire scene and lab examinations of the evidence with Leviton's experts (internal and external) and other parties
- Prepare discovery responses in product liability lawsuits
- Coordinate forensic examinations at Leviton of evidence in product liability lawsuits
- Review various pleadings, interact with local counsel from throughout the United States in responding to motions and other time sensitive documents Perform legal research via Westlaw as assigned by Associate General Counsel and Senior Corporate Counsel
- Set up product liability claims and files in Claims Management System Monitor and calendar important court dates
- Assist Associate General Counsel in preparing witnesses (corporate employees) for their depositions
- Attend depositions and/or court hearings
- Prepare reports of Leviton's general liability, labor/employment, product liability and asbestos lawsuits and claims
- Draft memoranda, correspondence, and legal positions
- Review corporate documents and policies for compliance purposes
- Review and assist with preparation of corporate contracts
- Review and summarize deposition transcripts
- Assist in file and document organization
- Assist in gathering documentation to respond to written discovery requests, litigation holds, subpoenas etc.
- Possible due diligence functions in connection with acquisitions
- Must be proficient in Westlaw or Lexis and Word Strong writing skills; journal experience strongly preferred. Writing sample required
Education & Experience:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Juris Doctorate program and have completed one year of law school; top half of law school class strongly preferred
