Overview:The CB&I Internship Program is designed to provide junior and senior level students and aspiring engineers hands on experience in a professional engineering environment. While prior job experience is not required, candidates must have a high GPA and basic training in common engineering computer programs, such as AutoCAD. Interns will learn the responsibilities of a professional engineer under the supervision of experienced engineers and designers. Successful candidates will demonstrate characteristics and perspectives that contribute to a diverse, growing organization.
Responsibilities:- Apply industry codes & standards along with internal CB&I details and standards to create engineering deliverables
- Using CAD software, develop engineering drawings and provide basic calculations
- Assist and take instructions from senior engineers and squad leaders
- Learn the responsibilities of a professional engineer
- Fulfill some administrative duties around the office or run errands for the engineering department
- Generate and process forms for the distribution of electronic engineering documents and track status
- Individual responsibilities will be aligned with the specific position. Examples by Discipline are:
- Mechanical Engineer for Plant Design: Design piping systems using industry codes and standards and CB&I's engineering tools, create engineering calculations, bills of material, and engineering drawings; assist preparation of bid documents and estimates.
- Mechanical Engineer for Process Design: Tasks may include supporting Process Design, Equipment Specification, development of a summary report and presentation documentation.
- Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineer for Plate Structures Design: Design and analysis of plate structures, creation of calculations, assist with preparation of estimates
- Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineer for Construction Design: Design and analysis of structural systems; calculate capacity ratings for proprietary equipment. Assist in review and rating of Proprietary Equipment with Fall Protection Anchors. Review construction methods such as crane rigging and lift plans
- Welding Engineer for Construction Support: Provides guidance to Welding, Quality and Erection Supervision to meet Code, Standard, CB&I and customer requirements. May provide site support to assure proper application of HSE, welding, NDE and quality standards
- Utilizes communication skills appropriate to the environment, resulting in effective interactions with internal and external stakeholder
- Proactively identifies and takes ownership of problems using strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Mentally agile and ability to multi-task and manage tight deadlines
- Adaptability and agility to learn and contribute in engineering and construction environments
- Reports to: Engineering Manager
- Permanent work location: Engineering Home Office
- May be temporarily assigned to Project Sites
- Current enrollment in an engineering program towards a BS or MS in a Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Welding, or Construction Management Engineering discipline with minimum 3.0 GPA (overall)
- Junior or Senior with at least one upper-level design course applicable to our work
