About the Job
Our client is a small government contractor based in Virginia, dedicated to providing exceptional services to federal clients. We are seeking an experienced Interim Controller to join our team on a one-year contract basis with the potential for extension. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in government contract accounting and be capable of leading our accounting functions efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily accounting functions including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), payroll, time & expense management, project accounting, month-end close, and account reconciliations.
- Establish and maintain chart of accounts, accounting policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Manage Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA)-compliant timekeeping and labor charging processes.
- Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Manage cash and banking relationships to optimize financial operations.
- Provide support during audits, including preparation of documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team to foster professional growth and ensure departmental objectives are met.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, contract status reports, and indirect rate calculations in accordance with contract requirements and company standards.
- Calculate, monitor, and optimize indirect cost rates and pools to maximize profitability and compliance with government regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in government contract accounting, with prior Controller-level experience.
- Proven experience supporting implementations and process improvements.
- Strong knowledge of DCAA regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
