Vaco is hiring for an Interim Fixed Asset Accountant opportunity in Cleveland OH
Position Overview:
The Interim Fixed Asset Accountant will manage and maintain the fixed asset accounting function for the City/Government municipality. This role ensures compliance with governmental accounting standards, accurately tracks the acquisition, disposal, and depreciation of fixed assets, and supports internal and external audit requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in municipal accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain the fixed asset ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of asset acquisitions, transfers, disposals, and impairments.
- Calculate and post depreciation and amortization schedules in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Conduct regular reconciliation of fixed asset accounts with the general ledger.
Policy Compliance & Reporting:
- Ensure compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and other applicable regulations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual fixed asset reports for management and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, specifically the capital assets section.
Audit Support:
- Provide detailed schedules, reports, and documentation to support internal and external audits.
- Address audit inquiries and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Asset Inventory Oversight:
- Conduct and coordinate physical inventories of fixed assets to ensure proper accountability and accuracy.
- Collaborate with departments to verify asset locations, conditions, and classifications.
Process Improvement:
- Review and enhance policies and procedures related to fixed asset management.
- Recommend and implement improvements to fixed asset tracking systems and workflows.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with department heads and project managers to monitor capital project expenditures.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on fixed asset policies and procedures as needed.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
