About the Job
Insurance Administrator and Counsel to support the Corporation and Legal Department. Position will report to the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of the Corporation. Assist the Vice President & General Counsel in the placement and administration of the corporate insurance program, including the preparation of underwriting submissions and presentations, payment of invoices, reviewing coverage binders and insurance policies, developing budget forecasts, reviewing policy audits, contract reviews, and serve as liaison between Kirby and insurers and service Kirby operating companies with respect to insurance matters.
The position requires business management acumen and must demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and time management skills, as well as have strong communication and client service skills.
Responsibilities:- Oversee review and approval of contract negotiations to obtain insurance terms acceptable to the organization.
- Negotiate, write and execute agreements with a concentration on insurance-related language.
- Offer counsel on legal issues including insurance claims and subcontractor defaults.
- Work alongside segment Assistant General Counsels, the Director of Claims and Litigation and the General Counsel to evaluate and mitigate potential risks.
- Research and anticipate legal issues related to insurance and subcontractor defaults.
- Work with insurance representatives.
- Insurance captive management, including run-off programs.
- Maintain a legal database of active insurance and subcontractor default claim matters.
- Act as the primary insurance point of contact daily.
- Work with various internal departments in development and/or review of revised language of various contracts and maintain a clear understanding the relevance of those provisions.
- Serve as a liaison amongst Kirby stakeholders and counterparties during the negotiation of non-standard contract terms and determine and address each affected department’s needs relative to those terms.
- Review and analyze insurance policies when an interpretation of contract terms is needed, or when identification of differences in selected terms across contracts is required.
- Perform legal research and provide legal coverage opinions to claims personnel involving coverage issues.
- Develop and present training programs to internal departments and participate in roundtable conferences with claims personnel on legal coverage matters.
- Facilitate the procurement of insurance (renewals and new placements) and related inhouse services, invoice approval and payment processing, certificates of insurance.
- Procurement of surety bonds (renewals and new issuances) and related in-house services, invoice approval and payment processing
- Review bi-monthly expiring/expired vendor insurance requirements and ensure compliance with Kirby’s approved supplier program.
- Review charter boat insurance requirements, provide insurance approval for chartered vessels and monitor compliance with contractual terms and conditions including review charter boat insurance policies and correspond with their agents.
- Issue monthly charter boat summary reports to distribution list.
- Provide customer/vendor lists to brokers for renewal.
- Review customer/vendor contracts for compliance with insurance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.

improving business processes. - Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to establish and maintain relationships with relevant internal counsel, business clients, and other Company stakeholders.

- Travel to the company’s other offices and jobsites will be required.
Experience/Education:
- 7+ years progressive experience in global Legal, Risk Management and Claims
Management applicable experience - Current state bar membership in good standing
- J. D. from accredited law school
