About the Job
Summary
The Insurance Authorization Assistant works under the direction of the Director and/or Office Manager. They oversee all patient registrations and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance. Updates the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and STAR billing systems; performs administrative review of each account, reads referrals, and schedules patients. Is a resource to all staff members in regards to the initial scheduling, insurance authorization and processing of patients.
Education
High school or equivalent (GED).
Certification, Registration & Licensure
None required.
Experience
At least one year experience working in the medical field or equivalent combination of continuing education and experience is preferred. Ability to effectively and positively interact with a multi disciplinary team of staff, patients, and others.
Responsibilities
Consistently displays the necessary skills and abilities required for the position.
Performs insurance authorizations.
Registers patients in hospital systems.
Processes and/or routes all incoming calls and responds to departmental inquiries.
Schedules patients for initial evaluations.
Reconciles work lists and reports.
Creates and maintains medical records and charts.
Performs other duties as assigned.
