Opportunity Summary
The Instrumentation Controls and Electrical (IC&E) Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, control systems and electrical equipment in the power plant and the associated facilities. The IC&E Technician performs work of high skill in the inspection repair, testing, adjustment, installation and removal of all electronic and electrical power plant equipment and systems in support of plant management.
Primary Functions
- Perform preventive maintenance on major equipment, emergency backup systems, and control systems.
Conduct comprehensive inspections, diagnostics, and maintenance checks on all power plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This includes calibration, testing, and troubleshooting of critical components such as control valves, transmitters, and analyzers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Manage the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical infrastructure within the power plant, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, and wiring up to 4160 volts. This involves coordinating installation projects, conducting repairs as needed, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Support plant operations by assisting in equipment operation and conducting hands-on troubleshooting and analysis on distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controls (PLC), and turbine control equipment.
Provide oversight for the efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment. This involves managing calibration, testing, and maintenance activities, as well as offering technical expertise in diagnosing and resolving issues related to critical components such as control valves, transmitters, and other vital systems.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement upgrades and enhancements, while adhering to safety and regulatory standards to uphold operational excellence. This involves analyzing system performance, recommending improvements, and participating in the planning and execution of projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems.
- Maintain organized equipment files, logs, and drawings to ensure efficient documentation.
- Assist in managing spare parts inventory and conduct physical inventories to uphold plant reliability.
- Participate in administrative maintenance of plant procedures, operating manuals, and maintenance records.
- Supervise contractor and outside technicians for in-plant electrical and control system repairs and upgrades.
- Contribute to plant housekeeping activities to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
- Fully adhere to NAES Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform tasks qualified to perform based on knowledge, experience, training, or licensure.
- Complete additional assignments as directed by plant management to support overall plant operations and goals.

Working Relationships
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and works in cooperation with the operating engineers on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant.
Physical Requirements and Working Relationships
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Working outdoors in adverse weather conditions, or with hazardous materials may be required. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a Monday to Friday work day, during regular day shift hours, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
Initial compensation will range from $51.17 to $56.95 per hour
Job Qualifications
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school
- Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable. Four years work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for this requirement
- A Massachusetts Electrician license is desirable
- Massachusetts 1C and 3A Hoisting Engineer Licenses are desirable
- Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts highly desirable
- Ability to locate, troubleshoot, and adjust defects in mechanical equipment and/or maintain, install, modify and troubleshoot plant electrical systems and equipment
- Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable
- Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists and slings
- Must have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills
- Must have strong personal computer skills
- Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times
