Job Description
Facilities Development and Management, Facilities Management Central Plant seeks an Instrumentation and Control Technician to perform work of a complex nature when operating, maintaining, and programming energy management and building automation systems.

Salary Range
$30.00 per hour, commensurate experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Essential Duties
- Support Central Plants Control system and all other control system associated to the plant.
- Monitor and adjust all systems to meet comfort levels.
- Evaluate systems for effective energy usage and conservation; make, adjust, repair, replace as needed.
- Use software and hardware in computers and microprocessors for system troubleshooting, adjustment, and repair.
- Modify existing systems and programs, troubleshooting, and maintenance for the objective of creating an optimum system of operation.
- Perform database uploads and down loads to provide DDC controllers with current programs.
- Operate and monitor computer control system equipment. Detect source and nature of system problems.
- Make adjustments to change operating parameters of the system due to emergencies, malfunctions, and change requirements or to optimize operations.
- Perform emergency corrections to neutralize alarm conditions and restore proper operation.
- Verify correct system and control sequence operations.
- May perform scheduled and unscheduled remote start and stop of equipment.
- Update air handlers' schedules upon request for air conditioning services.
- Review, modify, and implement programming changes to building automation system to ensure efficient and effective system operations and conformance with standards and guidelines.
- Calibrate, repair, and replace building automation system sensing devices to specifications.
- May dispatch trouble calls to appropriate personnel to respond to customer needs.
- Study plans, drawings, specifications, and work order requirements.
- Troubleshoot power supplies, controllers, transducers, transmitters, flow meters, sensors, actuators, and take corrective actions.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- Communicate to perform the essential functions of the job.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
Minimum Qualifications
Six years experience in energy management engineering or with building automation systems; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge skills and abilities have been achieved. Some positions may require Chloroflourocarbons Certification upon employment. Employee may be required to possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in:
- Automation system and process controls.
- Programming building automation systems and field equipment.
- Process control calibration and control actuator valve replacement.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Working Environment
- Work in extreme and varying temperatures, restricted movements, confined spaces (tunnels, manholes, vaults), and intense noise.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds is required. Work off ladders to download/upload field controllers and relocate/install thermostats.
- Utilize hand tools (wire strippers, screw drivers, pliers, wrenches, volt amp meter, temperature/humidity calibrator) and power tools (drill).
- Wear personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, face shield, gloves).
- Drive University vehicle and/or cart.
- May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator).
- Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.

This position is located at the Tempe campus.
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include audiogram, asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test.
This position requires working a rotating on-call/stand-by schedule and may be called in for emergency response including nights, weekends, and holidays.
