Nestled in the picturesque landscapes of Deming, New Mexico, Luna Energy operates a natural-gas fired combined cycle generating plant with a substantial 570 MW capacity. Opportunity Summary
The Instrumentation Control and Electrical (IC&E) Technician oversees preventive maintenance, troubleshoots instrumentation and control systems, and ensures compliance with safety protocols in a combined cycle power plant environment. They possess proficiency in inspecting, repairing, and calibrating various electrical components, while also managing spare parts inventory and documentation. Additionally, they play a pivotal role in maintaining equipment files, conducting periodic calibration, and providing support for continuous emission monitoring equipment.
Primary Functions
- Performing preventive maintenance on all major equipment, including emergency backup systems.
- Adhering to safety protocols and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, to maintain a safe working environment and prevent accidents or injuries.
- Diagnosing and resolving issues related to instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal plant performance.
- Inspecting, repairing, installing, and removing various electrical components such as motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, with proficiency in working with electrical systems up to and including 4160 volts.
- Ensuring the proper calibration and maintenance of various control systems, including distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and turbine control systems.
- Forecasting, inventorying, and reordering spare parts to ensure plant reliability, and assisting in physical inventories.
- Maintaining comprehensive equipment files, logs, and drawings for designated equipment.
- Participating in the administrative maintenance of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
- Conducting troubleshooting and analysis on DCS, PLC, and MK V turbine control equipment.
- Completing the required periodic calibration and maintenance of Continuous Emission Monitoring (CEMs) equipment.
- Fulfilling other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager.
Working Relationships
The IC&E Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager, works in cooperation with the operating utility on matters pertaining to the daily operation of the plant and responds to direction from the Plant Manager, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager or Duty Manager in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical requirements include standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g. hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Fitness for Duty
All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening.
Work Schedule
This position offers a 4 day, 10-hour day shift. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.
Compensation
Initial starting compensation will range from $41.50 to $52.00 per hour.
Job Qualifications
- Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school.
- Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program is preferred, accompanied by a minimum of two years' experience as a technician in a related industry.
- Four years of work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry can substitute for the formal educational requirement.
- The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues while also being self-directed is crucial. Candidates should possess a knack for applying creative solutions to unique IC&E problems.
- Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in interpreting and working from blueprints is required.
- Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in the use of both hand and power-driven tools.
- Proficiency in personal computer skills is required.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License at all times.
