Please note this is a part-time position with a set schedule.
Reports to: Program Manager
General Description: Works under Program Manager, Program Assistant to provide community-based instruction and care to persons with developmental disabilities.
Qualifications:
1. High School diploma or equivalent and must be 18 years of age or older.
2. Must possess 1 year prior experience in instructing and/or direct intervention with persons with developmentally disabilities.
3. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
4. Prefer knowledge of developmental and physical disabilities, behavior and medical problems that can accompany the primary and/or secondary disability.
5. Must be in good health with the ability to lift 50 pounds, have knowledge of correct lifting, positioning and transferring techniques.
6. Prefer knowledge of basic behavior modification techniques, medical knowledge concerning seizure activity and cerebral palsy is helpful; must be able to remain calm in situations of high stress; must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions prescribed by superiors.
7. Must have independent and reliable transportation with valid automobile insurance.
8. Must have good written and verbal communication.
9. Must be able to follow written instructions.
10. CPR/FA certified is preferred.
Duties:
Provide community-based group (1:3) daily instruction based on consumer ISP's; record data daily regarding consumer's progress; attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and trainings; maintain equipment; maintain communication with Program Manager or designated supervisory staff. Ensure that consumer's health and safety needs are met in the community; assist in application of behavioral management techniques as specified in instructional plans (ISP's); provide input to manager(s) regarding the development of individualized program objectives; provide toileting, dressing, feeding and mobility assistance to participants when necessary. Provide lifting and positions of participants as instructed. To promote and maintain a congenial supportive work environment and other duties as assigned.
