Inpatient RN - Fresenius Medical Care

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 is an entry-level role in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This position is responsible for delivering and coordinating competent patient care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. Responsibilities include delegating tasks to RNs, LVNs/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians, and participating in decision-making and quality improvement activities within the kidney disease healthcare team.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform essential functions under supervision and guidance.
• Collect and analyze patient data, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
• Assess and document patient/family learning needs for ongoing education.
• Report variations in patient status to the healthcare team.
• Provide safe, effective patient care for assigned treatments.
• Coordinate communication with dialysis providers for continuity of care.
• Administer medications and document their effectiveness.
• Assist with emergency response measures.
• Participate in staff training and orientation.
• Complete CAP requirements for advancement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Direct patient care involves heavy lifting and moving patients.
• Frequent prolonged standing and bending are required.
• May need to move equipment up to 200 lbs. and lift solutions up to 30 lbs.
• Work environment typical of a healthcare facility with moderate noise.
• Exposure to infectious materials may occur.
• Travel to training and between facilities is required.
• Participation in on-call rotation may be necessary.

SUPERVISION:

• Oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LVN/LPNs/RNs as Nurse in Charge after meeting training and experience requirements.

EDUCATION and LICENSURE:

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Current state licensure and CPR BLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Entry-level for RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience.
• Minimum 9 months as a Registered Nurse; 12 months preferred.
• 6 months acute dialysis experience preferred.
