Job Description/Duties/Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the design department
- Design and Development: Create detailed designs for injection molding tools, including 3D models and 2D drawings, using CAD software.
- Tool Specification: Develop specifications and requirements for tooling materials, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Prototyping and Testing: Oversee the production of prototypes and conduct thorough testing to validate tool performance and identify potential improvements.
- Collaboration: Work closely with product development teams, manufacturing engineers, and suppliers to ensure tool designs meet project specifications and timelines.
- Problem Solving: Analyze and resolve technical issues related to tool design, material selection, and manufacturing processes.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of design changes, tool modifications, and testing results.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement best practices to enhance tool performance and efficiency.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure all tools meet industry standards and company quality requirements.
Minimum Skills/Mandatory Skills/Experience Needed for Hire:
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience: Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in injection molding tool design and development. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience leading a team
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and knowledge of injection molding processes.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex design and manufacturing issues.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and precision in tool design and documentation.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques such as CNC machining and additive manufacturing.
- Knowledge of material science and properties of various polymers used in injection molding.
- Certification in mold design or related fields.
Educational Requirement:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

The Injection Molding Tool Designer will work in both office and manufacturing environments, often requiring collaboration with production teams on the shop floor. Occasional travel may be required to meet with suppliers or attend industry conferences.
