JOB TITLE: Injection Molding Maintenance Technician
REPORTS TO DEPT. NAME
Process Engineer/Molding Supervisor Manufacturing Engineering
PURPOSE OF JOB
Responsible for maintenance, upkeep and repairs to injection molding machines with the goal of maximizing machine up time and productivity.
JOB/OPERATION ELEMENTS
Essential Job Duties:
Establish and maintain inventory system of all consumable items.ie core pins, pinch offs, tools, etc.
- General maintenance, clean-up, and make ready all molds returning from production.
- Inspection and assessment of molds’ condition.
- Coordinate and communicate with other mold technicians, Process Engineer and Manufacturing Supervisor.
- Identify if any mold repair work is required
- Identify and work with process engineer on corrective action as required
- Clean molds (i.e. wipe down, grease bushings, grease knock-out plates and pins, etc.) and ensure “ready to use” status.
- Work with process engineer to coordinate repairs and other associated work at outside mold repair shops.
- Establish and maintain staging area for next job setups. This would involve not only tooling but associated paperwork needed for setups.
- Stage molds and tooling that come back from the manufacturing floor for review and evaluation.
- Organize and maintain all molds along with associated tooling including core pins, pinch offs, out rigging, fixtures and any other components used in the manufacture of molded product.
- Inform process engineer and manufacturing supervisor of any non-conformances.
- Clean and maintain core pins/pinch offs /out rigging prior to storage.
- Organization and storage of molds
- Organization and storage of spare parts for molds
- Core pins
- Spare inserts
- Spare pinch off components
- Other mold related tooling and set-up items
- Organization and inventory of other mold/mold press related parts as determined
- Bolts, fittings, hoses, hose clamps, nozzles, etc.
REQUIREMENTS/EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED; technical certification or degree is preferred.
- Minimum five (5) years experience working in plastic injection molding with three (3) performing setups, breakdowns, troubleshooting, repairs.
- Strong problem solving and critical reasoning skills.
- Experience with and drive for continuous improvement and process facilitation.
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic reading, math and comprehension skills.
- Working knowledge of measurement equipment.
- Blueprint reading skills.
- Knowledge of ISO and GMP practices
