GENERAL PURPOSE
The Technology Project Manager (TPM) specializes in the design of technology infrastructure within the built and construction environments. Provides overall coordination and direction for the implementation of distributed, large scale voice and networking systems, and supporting IT infrastructure. This includes Enterprise Voice, Off-site Voice, wide area networks, local area networks, and general offerings across University IT.
**SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Project leadership:**
+ Coordinates IT resources in support of the design and planning phases of construction/renovation, departmental moves, system or site upgrades or infrastructure projects.
+ Maintains IT responsibility from project conception, throughout implementation and completes the work with project closeout protocols.
+ Provides oversight and management of assigned project teams throughout the engagement.
+ Plans and executes technology strategies that reflect the goals of quality, usability, on-time delivery and budget stewardship.
+ Handles high visibility situations and critical customers using effective negotiating and exemplary customer service skills.
**Construction leadership:**
+ Manages the construction and deployment phases of the project.
+ Acts as IT consultant and resource to University Project Managers from Campus Planning, Construction Management, Real Estate Services, Space Planning, and Facilities.
+ Prepares voice/data bid requirement; manages bid process or serves as the IT consultant during the process.
**Budget and documentation:**
+ Prepares project budgets for the IT portion of the project.
+ Offers input on the pre-build budget and the overall budget to ensure that all aspects of the technology are provided for; this can include conduit, outside plant infrastructure and in-building transmission systems.
+ Ensures that all required project documentation, as-builts, network and security documentation are complete, accurate and delivered to the responsible holder and that billing to the project or department is complete.
**Technical leadership:**
+ Maintains knowledge of University standards including local code compliance, Asbestos Survey and Abatement, Infection Control, Risk Assessment, fire suppression/prevention, cabling and infrastructure.
+ Keeps abreast of current telephony, network and LAN technologies through continuing education, journal review, web searches, on the job training and formal seminar opportunities.
+ Makes recommendations for and implements process improvements.
+ Supports the goals of the department demonstrating consistent, professional, and quality customer service.
+ Participates in the Manager On Call rotation in Core Technology Services.
Other duties as assigned.
**REQUIREMENTS**
**Required:**
+ Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Computer Science, Telecommunications or Engineering.
+ 4-5 years of related telecommunications experience including 2-3 years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Comprehensive knowledge of voice and network system design, structured cabling, National Electric Codes, and various standards are essential. Proficient capabilities in Microsoft Project and the MS Office suite, emphasizing Word and Excel. A basic understanding (or mastery) of REVIT, AutoCAD, and/or Visio is vital.
