The Infrastructure Engineer provides expertise in supporting one or more products or services while pro-actively monitoring, controlling and supporting service operations; working to achieve service levels. Maintains the organization's IT infrastructure, which may include hardware, software, servers, storage solutions, networks, or physical facilities.
What you’ll be doing:
- Ensure the stability, security, and Business Readiness of installed Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems
- Partner with Application teams to support Markel’s business platforms and assorted enterprise toolsets as well as provide technical support for application and business customers
- Principal RTE/BAU support for Markel’s Core Platform operation including support escalation and troubleshooting system and server errors. Perform resolution of sophisticated hardware, environmental software operating systems and subsystems as part of critical incident response and remediation
- Participate in monthly Standard Maintenance weekend activities including Server support and ensure Markel’s standards for Business Readiness are met
- Collaborate with peer organisations in Markel’s Global Technology Services to ensure SLAs for incident and problem management are met
- Provide proactive system performance monitoring and resolution of alerts for the organisation’s server assets, as well as perform preventative maintenance and daily health checks to reduce system downtime
- Partner with other internal infrastructure engineers to perform operational support, project activity and reporting for system owners and stakeholders
- Seek to constantly evolve process and systems using standard tools. Ensure conformance and compliance with existing system standards. Measure performance to ensure proper operation and successful deployment
- Train technical staff on use of software/hardware tools in accordance with required standards and procedures
- Participate in afterhours critical production support as required. On-call support will be required for this role
What we’re looking for:
- Solid experience in providing technical support and delivery of large projects, working with partners from the business in addition to development and infrastructure teams
- Extensive knowledge of Windows operating systems in an Enterprise environment
- Demonstrated support experience with Linux operating systems
- Understanding of Active Directory and working with Group Policy
- Experience with SCCM, Zerto, Solarwinds and Logic Monitor would additionally be useful
- Experience opening priority incidents with external vendors and driving to resolution
- Familiarity with PowerShell or scripting technologies and automation capabilities
- Demonstration of a deep understanding of how discrete infrastructure components work together in an
- Enterprise environmentExperience working with Cloud technologies, including Azure
- Understanding of security concepts and how they impact IT Infrastructure
- Good interpersonal, negotiation, creativity, attention to detail, and oral and written communications skills tailored for the intended audience
- Worked under direction and guidance in planning details of procedures and methods to attain definite objectives
- Experience working in an acquisition minded environment with the ability to scale technologies, people and process
- Familiarity working in an Agile and DevOps environment preferred
- Microsoft Windows Administrator or Architect certification preferred
- Linux+ or equivalent Linux Administrator certification preferred
- ITIL Certification or experience working in an ITIL environment preferred
