Job Description:
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a UI/UX Engineer at our Superior Township, MI facility. This position is in the department of Infotainment System SW Development that undertakes various innovation projects related to infotainment and UI/UX systems software development for the next generation vehicle software architecture as well as production application of SW features and service contents.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and design automotive infotainment features and define engineering specs
- Develop User Interface, User Experience, and the wireframe of infotainment features
- Investigate customer needs and requirements and create technical specs based on the investigation
- Design an automotive head unit screen and wireframe of infotainment features by reflecting user needs into head unit operation spec from a user-centered design perspective
- Design infotainment contents and UX for the application of user-friendly and easy-to-understand instructions and button labels to an infotainment interface
- Conduct user acceptance test and identify improvement items
- Participate in new infotainment feature concept development in cross-functional projects and POC creation, working with other SW development teams such as Vehicle Control, ADAS/AD, and Electrical/Electronic System
- Collaborate with internal/external project partners such as content providers, prototyping services, university labs, and tech suppliers
- Conduct competitor system benchmarking, industry technology sensing, and trend analysis
- Travel both domestically and internationally up to 20%

Required Experience:
Basic Qualifications
- B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Engineering, Human Factors, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a combination of education and equivalent experience
- Understanding of engineering spec definition: SRS, SAD, SDD, Wireframe
- Knowledge in graphic interface design principles, particularly on the design elements
- Understanding of human factors and ergonomics for touch-based infotainment interface design
- Able to adapt to agile work scope with shifting priorities, demands, and timelines
- Comfortable with blank-slate initiatives as well as on-going established projects
- Good communication skills and ability to develop/keep good relationship with tech experts from R&D Center and internal counterpart teams
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Industrial Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field
- Experience as an UI/UX developer or engineer for automotive infotainment systems, E/E systems, consumer electronics or any relevant products, especially related to at least one of the following fields: HMI application programing, system programing, and embedded system development
- A work portfolio that demonstrates a design experience with a touch-based interface, especially for 12" to 24" LCD screens for car driving contexts
- Experience designing for Speech based interactions
- Experience in production SW lifecycle including requirements, system design, development, and maintenance of the embedded software for vehicle systems
- Working knowledge of operating systems such as QNX, Linux, Open Source SW, Yocto, and Android
- Understanding of modern techniques in at least one of the following fields: Machine Learning, Deep Neural Networks, Natural Language Processing, or Voice/Speech Recognition
- Knowledge in Agile, Waterfall, DevOps development processes and tools such as Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo
