The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (Information Technology Enterprise Specialist) for the Information Technology Division, Database Administration and Application Support Unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database design, implementation, data warehouse, data analytics, and support, with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure. Qualified applicants will possess experience in the specific functional area of Database Administration: Provide complex level database support and troubleshooting; design, install, tune and maintain integrity of enterprise-wide databases; lead integration efforts. Configure and monitor high availability database solutions using AG, provide 24X7 support for critical production systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Design and Implementation:
- Design, install, tune, and maintain integrity of enterprise-wide databases.
- Configure and monitor high availability database solutions using Always On and Windows Cluster.
- Implement security, connectivity, scalability, and reliability features of On-Premise MS SQL DB and on Cloud using Azure & AVS.
Technical Leadership:
- Develop a cross-cutting technical direction and strategic planning for Cloud database and Data warehouse in alignment with business objectives.
- Stay updated on recent trends in the database world with a focus on networking, reliability, scalability, storage, and security.
- Provide guidance and mentor database administrators and developers to enable them to succeed in the team and the space.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Lead or coordinate others in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
- Participate in on-call rotation for maintaining database service health and application availability for business use.
- Collaborate effectively with all levels of technical and non-technical staff and management.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficient with SQL Server 2016 and above, SQL Server Reporting Services, Analysis Services, Always On, and Always Encrypted.
- Strong knowledge in network architecture, VMWare, Enterprise Storage, Azure, AVS. TSQL and PowerShell scripting.
- Strong background in database design, security, implementation, performance tuning and support.
- Demonstrated experience in architecting, designing and managing database in Azure & Stretch database, and in AVS.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, particularly in high pressure, mission-critical environments.
Upon hire, hybrid remote work may be available.
Salary Range: $105,951 - $157,400/year – plus State of Connecticut benefits.
New employees begin at the minimum. The starting salary for existing state employees may be higher than the minimum, in accordance with existing Judicial Branch policy.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
General Experience: Ten (10) years of experience in information technology (IT), programming, systems/software development or another IT related field demonstrating a growing and broadening base of knowledge and experience.
Special Experience: Two (2) years of the General Experience must have been at the expert working level with responsibility for performing a full range of highly complex technical support functions.
Substitutions Allowed:
1) College training in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or information technology related area may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equaling six (6) months of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor’s degree.
2) A Master’s degree in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or information technology related area may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.
3) Relevant certification in management information systems, computer science, electrical engineering or information technology related area may be substituted for up to six (6) months of the general experience.
Special Requirements: Incumbents may be required to travel within the State in the course of their daily work.
