Job Title: Information Systems Technician I - Server Support

Salary: Salary Commensurate with experience – Minimum $4,865.00 monthly
Overview:
Responsible for assisting in the configuration, installation, maintenance and support of Secretary of State server environments for both cloud and on-premise systems; installs, tests and promotes into production the latest release of any operating system and associated service packs and/or patches; ensures all systems adhere to Agency standards; monitors systems and server performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for specifying, configuring and installing servers; installs, configure and test the appropriate operating system server software; ensures servers are protected from any outside threats such as viruses or hacker intrusion; performs routine maintenance on servers to reduce potential for “prime time” failure.
- Assists in the development, documentation and installation of complex data processing systems; coordinates, conducts in the implementation and maintenance of these systems; serves as Server Administrator by establishing, modifying and monitoring user profiles (i.e. user password, permission to access various computer systems, etc.).
- Assists with developing, implementing and maintaining security measures consistent with the policies of the Information Technology Department; utilizes system management tools to monitor resource utilization; optimizes system performance, forecasting future growth requirements based on the data collected and presents findings and budgetary requirements to appropriate Information Technology management.
- Performs technician level systems analysis of hardware, software and communication requirements; assists in the evaluation of new software and hardware products for possible future implementation; provides recommendations and/or consultations to advisors, users, immediate managers and committees on findings; installs application software and upgrades; tests new software before final implementation to ensure minimal impact to users.
- Conducts formal and informal training classes designed to provide students with education and experience necessary to support the software and/or systems.
- Maintains and updates documentation related to procedures, activity logs, statistics, required reference manuals, menus, backup, execution reports, etc.
- Travels as necessary for education, meetings and site surveys.
- As Server Administrator, required to act independently in response to unplanned hardware, software or systems failures.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of one year of college, with Computer Science coursework or one and one-half (1.5) years of technical systems and/or programming experience.
- Requires the ability to push/pull, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Requires possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
