Overview
The Information Security Specialist supports the security efforts at the JPL.
Responsibilities
- Required to follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.
- Execute and sustain a comprehensive physical security protection program utilizing physical measures designed to safeguard people, to prevent unauthorized access to equipment, facilities, material, and documents, and to safeguard them against damage and loss.
- Use the Electronic Physical Access Control System (EPACS). Install and maintain electronic security systems such as intrusion alarms, locking devices and other security barriers, audio alarms and mobile patrol CCTV. This includes, but is not limited to, walls, fences, gates, doors, electronic and mechanical locks, turnstiles, and bollards. Submit deficiencies to the NASA PSO.
- Provide priority attention and added protection to NASA Mission Essential Infrastructure (MEI) assets and conduct MEI assessments.
- Maintain records of the numeric combinations and of approved individuals. Record these combinations in the NASA Resource Management System (RMS)
- Use EPACS to manage, operate, and maintain the IT systems associated with the control and monitoring of the access control.
- Maintain the capability to expand existing electronic security systems as new requirements develop.
- Perform and/or assist in the design, development, and coordination of any necessary reviews, hardware and software acquisition, installation, monitoring, and maintenance of all electronic security systems.
- Develop and operate a monitoring and alerting system that notifies and initiates appropriate responses to emergency or other activations of monitoring devices, including attempted and/or actual breaches of electronic security systems.
- Develop program security plans, facility security plans, site security plans, contingency plans, and operational security plans and distribute as required

Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Possess a minimum of four (4) years of experience performing a combination of vulnerability and risk assessments, physical security inspections, and physical security surveys.

- Must complete the Risk Management Process (RMP) & Facility Security Committee (FSC) Training within the first year of assignment
- Knowledge and/or experience in project management and business rules.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of federal arrest authority.
- Strong personnel management skills; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Superior knowledge, analytical, persuasion, and problem-solving skills relative to health, safety, environmental, and business matters.
- Ability to manage multiple, high priority tasks simultaneously.
- Capable of assimilating and critically evaluating information.
- Successfully completed all training and have obtained all required permits, licenses, certifications, and security/medical clearances for the site.
- Equivalent education/experience is applicable.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.
- Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenberg Act.
- Must be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
- Must be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications and complete a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory -2 (MMPI-2) and Shipley Institute of Living Scale psychological examinations.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.
Estimated Salary/Wage
Up to USD $35.85/Hr.
