About the Job
ProChem is seeking a responsible and autonomous individual to operate a comprehensive wastewater treatment system for the purposes of maximizing customer retention, collecting data, and increasing the account value. This position serves as one of two front line contacts for the customer and one of two operators for the treatment system. This position is ideal for someone with the educational background who is looking for a start into the industry. This position works daily at the customer's site in Ithaca, NY to maintain the account. If you are not located in the Ithaca or surrounding area, a willingness to relocate to the area is required. Temporary housing can be provided.
The position has two main objectives: 1) safely and efficiently operate a comprehensive wastewater treatment program to meet the customer's unique treatment needs. 2) Identify areas for improvement that ensures the most effective use of ProChem's products and services. ProChem's main office is located in Elliston, VA. The account is also supported remotely and in-person by the other members of the account management team, who can all provide safety, technical, and professional training and guidance. You will also have the full support of the ProChem engineering team to assist with troubleshooting and system improvements.
The successful candidate must: be able to perform the required job duties, meet the required education and experience criteria, possess the required skills, meet the physical demands of the position, and commute reliably to the work location for the specified schedule. Preference will be given to candidates who possess skills and training marked as "preferred."
Job Duties:
- Monitors and operates various water treatment technologies
- Interfaces with customer representatives regularly for the purposes of maintaining a healthy relationship
- Provides customers with outstanding customer experiences that adhere to ProChem values, mission, and demonstrate PCI's philosophy
- Provide professional and courteous support to our customers, maintaining a solutions-focused work ethic
- Serves as the designated point of contact for the customer
- Develops and presents professional reports and technical presentations for ProChem leadership and customer representatives
- Prepares and maintains monthly reports, analysis, and recommendations based on customer data
- Prepares and maintains daily service and activity reports
- Provides competitive intelligence reports
- Follow quality control, safety, and PPE procedures
- Conduct regular operator rounds on all equipment and components
- Respond to system alarms
- Collect water samples for testing; conducts on site testing, as appropriate
- Conduct routine maintenance: change membranes, perform clean-in-place on membranes, calibrate instruments, change filters, etc.
- Record data and work to optimize system performance, in areas such as wastewater recovery, membrane life, and chemical feed rates and dosages
- Drive a fork lift to load/unload and organize stock items such as chemistry and filters
- Maintain a clean, safe work environment
- Follow all safety, ISO, and EPA guidelines and regulations
- Maintain a current Hazwoper 24 certification
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in activities such as: attending educational workshops, obtaining certification(s), participating in company organized events, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, and participating in professional societies
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Experience working with the management level staff of an industrial organization (preferred)
- Proven ability to develop and cultivate lasting customer relationships with a diverse set of internal and external constituencies (preferred)
- Strong analytical capabilities, specifically related to water treatment protocols and processes; ability to perform on site jar testing and treatability studies (preferred)
- Excellent organization, project management, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills (preferred)
- Willingness to "roll up one's sleeves" and assist wherever needed (required)
- Demonstrated understanding of various water treatment technologies and applications (preferred)
- Ability to lead and maintain an analytical and technical conversation; ability to articulate complex technical information into simpler, manageable terms (required)
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing (required)
- Familiarity with sales processes and concepts (preferred)
- Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and objectivity (required)
- Experience with chemicals and corrosives (preferred)
- Experience with fluid handling equipment (preferred)
- Experience with electrical systems and/or controls systems (preferred)
- Mechanical ability (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings (preferred)
- Ability to work autonomously and with a team (required)
- Ability to troubleshoot (required)
- Knowledge of wastewater/water sampling procedures (preferred)
Required Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with a science focus (such as Chemistry, Environmental Science) or a combination of comparable amount of relevant work experience plus industry-specific training (water treatment) and higher education degree.
Schedule Requirements: Shift: 6am – 6pm 2 days on and 2 days off 3 days on and 3 days off. You will work every other weekend off. This position also requires flexibility in work hours, vacation, and other scheduling considerations to meet the demands of the position.
Physical Demands & Environment: This position requires working indoors and outdoors during all weather conditions. The work facilities include modest amenities. The individual will be exposed to noise from machinery and a variety of odors. This position requires the individual to work with hazardous chemicals and compounds. The position requires moderate activity with frequent walking, standing for long periods, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, lifting, and ladder work. It may require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds regularly. The position requires the employee work around electricity and water, plumbing equipment, and a variety of chemical used within the wastewater treatment systems.
