About the Job
The general role of the Industrial Programmer is to provide automation programming for a wide range of projects as they progress from concept to installation. The projects vary greatly and consist of custom electromechanical equipment, control panels, robotics, vision systems, drives, etc. This individual will work in conjunction with technicians, engineers and project managers as assigned. The work will be performed at customer sites, and in the shop and office as needed.
This individual possesses a strong understanding of industrial controls, computers, and networking and requires an aptitude and willingness for hands-on work in the shop or field. This position must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include travel with overnight stays and overtime as needed.
What You'll Do:A. Perform SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) development
B. Perform PLC and HMI programming (ex. RS Logix 500/5000, Studio 5000, etc.), commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting on machines, production lines, conveyor systems, etc.
C. Support and pursue additional business opportunities with new and existing customers
D. Integrate various instrumentation such as pressure sensors, load cells, flow meters, etc.
E. Work safely in proximity to a variety of voltages such as 24VDC, 120VAC, 480VAC, single phase and 3-phase
F. Interpret electrical drawings and documentation for custom machines, systems, and products
G. Configure controls components such as VFDs, servo drives, machine vision systems, robot controllers, field IO racks, etc.
H. Properly use manuals for proper installation, programming, and troubleshooting of components
I. Create OEM manuals, documentation, SOPs etc.
J. Conduct operator training and technical instruction for users/customers
K. Collaborate with customers as needed to identify and solve issues
L. Provide troubleshooting to follow a problem to the source and solve the issue
M. Ensure installed products meet quality and scope expectations
N. Follow quality control standards and check lists
O. Recognize and communicate design changes to Engineers and Project Management that are not included in the Scope of Work or active Change Orders
P. Learn to bid basic jobs to include Bill of Materials, costs, scheduling, etc.
Q. Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and updated technology
R. Train and mentor Industrial Programming Tech personnel
S. Provide feedback for performance reviews as needed
Working Conditions
A. Walk / use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or tools / reach with hands and arms / climb ladders and stairs / crawl / kneel
B. Sit, talk, listen, observe, read, write, and type
C. Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted
D. Perform work on site in industrial locations with occasional underground and/or at heights
• Possess High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preference given to applicants with relevant PLC/Programming training or certifications
• Advanced proficiency with personal computers to include Microsoft Office Suite, setup, configuration, networking, IP Addresses, etc.
• Experience with PLC and HMI software such as Rockwell Automation RSLogix and FactoryTalk View preferred
• Active as a customer point of contact
• Ability to independently troubleshoot and program SCADA, PLC, and HMI
• Valid driver’s license required
• Ability to think outside the box and think critically to program in unique situations
• Ability to understand cause and effect in a variety of processes
• Willingness to maintain and obtain additional licensure and certifications as needed
• Possess electrical aptitude
• Willingness to perform hands on work
• Experience reading and interpreting manuals and electrical drawings required
• Must be willing to attend training and remain updated regarding industry standards
• Ability to understand and interpret scope of work for specific tasks
• Ability to follow work direction and prioritize assigned tasks
• Ability to perform complex mathematical calculations, graphing, and scaling accurately
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
• Ability to work well both independently and as a team
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Willingness to stretch current abilities to learn new skills
• Willingness to work underground and at heights as needed
• 4+ years’ relevant programming work experience preferred
