Job Purpose
Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) is currently searching for Adjunct faculty to teach courses in Industrial Maintenance Technology at any (KCKCC) location. This is a POOL position. Application materials for this adjunct position are accepted on an ongoing basis due to the increasing demand for courses in this subject area.
Position Description
- Provides instruction that is realistic in terms of current and future job specifications.
- Works with the advisory committee and actively participates in Business and Industry.
- Provides related instruction with shop, laboratory, or other occupational experience that is appropriate to the career objectives of the student
- Exhibits positive human relations skills.
- Maintains an environment which is conducive to learning with particular attention to safety practices, good housekeeping, and student behavior
- Implement activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
- Develops career-related instructional materials relative to technological changes in business and industry.
- Utilizes student-centered teaching strategies.
- Ability to grant national certificates in NFPA Arch Flash 70e or OSHA 3095.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Instruct students on proper safety procedures and proper use of power and hand tools.
- Repair, replace, install, and test electrical circuits, equipment and appliances using both hand tools and test equipment.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Dismantled devices to gain proper access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools and power tools.
- Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
- Knowledge of industrial machine maintenance, programmable controls, electrical, mechanical, robotics, automation systems, and associated advanced manufacturing operations,
- Keep current on educational teaching methods and strategies.
- Institutional accreditation, planning, and continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in professional development activities to remain current in the program field and skills.
- Use educational technology and alternative delivery methods to deliver high-quality instruction (i.e., Zoom, MS Teams, online, hybrid, and accelerated course formats, course software such as Canvas, video, ITV, etc.).
- Strong industry-relevant computer skills and adaptation of new software.
- Work effectively with students, colleagues, staff, and a community who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicities, and educational, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
Position Qualifications and/or Education
Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
- High School Degree and/or College Certificate in Industrial Machine Maintenance, Automation Engineer Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, or a closely related trade.
- Experience and/or Certificates in areas such as: Industrial Machine Maintenance, Advanced/Automated Manufacturing, Robotics, PLCs, Actuator and Sensor Systems, AC/DC Circuits, Industrial Fluid Power, Electrical Motor Controls, AUTO CAD, Lean Manufacturing Principles, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Industrial Systems Integration.
- Five (5) years of experience in industrial technology, advanced manufacturing, automation engineering, or a closely related area with an emphasis on several trade areas listed above.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or automated equipment for various processes.
Preferred Qualifications and/or Education
- Journeyman Electrician’s or certificate. The journeyman electrician certification must be from an accredited institution i.e., International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers or The United States Department of Labor or passing the prometric exam with documented third-party hands-on experience.
- Six (6) years (10,000 clock hours) or more industry-related experience in one of the following areas:
- AC/DC circuits
- Motor controls
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLCs)
- Variable frequency drives (VFDs)
- Troubleshooting techniques
- One- Two (1-2) years teaching/training experience in one or more of the industrial electrical maintenance topics listed above.
- Ability to grant national certificates in NFPA Arch Flash 70e or OSHA 3095.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear motor vehicle record.
- Teaching experience in an open enrollment, urban community college.
- Experience with a Learning Management System such as Blackboard.
- Experience in learner-centered pedagogy.

Work Schedule
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hours to meet operational needs. May require evening and weekend hours. Your appointment is contingent on sufficient enrollments, or on program and scheduling changes.
