While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, ensures all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner; maintains required safety, security and operational training; assures procedural and regulatory compliance; and makes safety, security and quality an integral part of every task, including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
- Conducts health program in industrial plant to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control occupational health hazards or environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community.
- Coordinates the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; measures the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups.
- Prepares rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the healthful conduct of all work practices and the prevention of hazardous or nuisance exposure to the surrounding community.
- Assists supervision in educating employees on practices, precautions, and procedures established.
- Reviews present and proposed standards and surveys new installations.
- Audits programs and conditions at all facilities.
- Provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation.
- Manages overall ISMS, ESHQ, 10CFR851 programs - Certified Industrial Hygienist highly preferred; also CSP preferred; supervisor for field safety support (matrixed staff) - provides program direction to matrixed staff
- Comprehensive knowledge of principles, concepts and techniques in Industrial Hygiene, including use of various sampling and analysis methods, personal exposure monitoring, safety program development, and related recordkeeping. Must be familiar with OSHA, EPA and all other Federal, state and local health regulations.
- Skill and ability to perform highly complex and critical tasks and to solve complex problems.
- Ability to have major impact on organizational success and productivity, with considerable latitude for independent judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively at the highest levels.
- Ability to lead substantial proposal and marketing initiatives.
- Ability to develop and lead large sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods.
- Ability to train and mentor more junior staff.
- Can be viewed as a capable independent contributor and as competent within the broad discipline.
- Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelors' degree in appropriate discipline; however, a combination of education and relevant experience wherein the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position’s duties and responsibilities have been adequately demonstrated is acceptable.
The career level of the position will be determined by the years of relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; after a candidate has been chosen.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements (Medium Work):
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level may be loud due to equipment or machinery used.
Medium Work Category - The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, to reach with hands and arms, and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
