Key Responsibilities:
- Execute assignments that address significant safety and health issues, applying scientific techniques and plans to mitigate potential adverse impacts.
- Incorporate safety and health requirements into proposals, planning documents, designs, construction, commissioning, operations, schedules, procurement, and subcontract documentation.
- Offer guidance during bid decisions and proposal development phases, emphasizing safety and health requirements' integration and compliance.
- Provide technical advice within ES&H teams and project groups regarding risk and hazard assessments, plan development, and program implementation.
- Conduct safety studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health evaluations.
- Assist in drafting and implementing the project’s Safety and Health Management Plan, related procedures, and training programs.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and incident investigations.
- Engage stakeholders to address and resolve safety and health concerns.
- Participate in meetings with customers, project team members, and contractors/subcontractors to discuss ES&H requirements.
- Conduct inspections and monitoring to evaluate ES&H performance, determine necessary corrective actions, and ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory standards.
- Develop safety and health communications via publications, flyers, posters, signs, and other media.
- Analyze data, track ES&H performance trends, and generate technical reports.
- Support other ES&H team members across all disciplines.
Job Knowledge & Skills:
- Expertise in a safety specialty such as Personal Protective Equipment, lockout/tagout, fall protection, or engineering disciplines like civil, process safety, mechanical.
- Familiarity with safety management, monitoring programs, and principles.
- Understanding of safety and health regulations, permitting processes, and responsibilities.
- Proficiency with OSHA regulations and USACE EM385.1.1 requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in safety, construction, industrial hygiene, life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, or related field, plus a minimum of 3 years relevant experience; or 9 years of professional experience without a degree.
- Effective communication skills and computer literacy.
- Experience in safety compliance inspection and assessment during construction.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 40-hour USACE EM385 training.
- 30-hour OSHA certification.
- Five years of experience in construction safety.
- Specialized certifications in confined space safety, work at heights, hazardous materials, or other ES&H specialties.
- First aid/AED certified.
