About the Opportunity
The purpose of this position is to oversee the operational and daily support to practice-based research endeavors. Individual provides specialized professional services to the WV Clinical & Translational Science Institute (WVCTSI), the Community Engagement and Outreach Core, and WV Practice-Based Research Network (WVPBRN). The position will lead program support and management for activities focused on clinical collaborative research initiatives in the area of health disparities. The incumbent will communicate often with clinical and translational investigators across WV and will assist the program directors in advancing initiatives to develop the program. This position makes decisions to choose the protocol reviewers and the actions needed for next steps. Critical to the success of the individual in this position is the ability to work as an effective team member while providing superb customer service to investigators and community members.

What you’ll do:
- Direct supervision of the WV Practice-Based Research Network Coordinator
- Provide program management and support services to investigators within the WVPBRN including (a) research assistance and grant preparation, (b) linkage to CEO and other WVCTSI Cores and resources for project implementation, and (c) administrative support for meetings, communications, and events.
- Lead the WVPBRN Steering and Protocol Review Committees meeting agendas.
- Manage network policies and procedures to maintain membership and protocol guidelines.
- With WVPBRN directors, identify scope and justify clinical projects that align with the goals and missions of the WVPBRN and WVCTSI.
- Facilitates the development and acceleration of scientific and clinical impact publications from network projects that include clinical providers and staff as co-authors and describe the contribution to health in rural communities.
- Provide PBRN evaluation data for the WVCTSI quarterly and annual reports, with assistance from the Co-Directors.
- Provide guidance and expertise on development and strategic planning for the WVPBRN including vision building and fiscal planning.
- Facilitate strategic planning between WVPBRN sites among member sites to implement collaborative research projects effectively.
- Provide program management for the Institutional Development Award Networks for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR) PBRN National Special Interest Group by creating agendas for monthly meetings, communicating information across partners, and assist in the planning of annual CTR PBRN meeting.
- Foster a collaborative team environment with project partners, such as the West Virginia Primary Care Association, West Virginia Rural Health Association, and all West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute partners.
- Direct the planning and implementation of the yearly WVPBRN Annual Retreat, including venue management, agenda setting, event registration, and evaluation.
- Present WVPBRN information to partners, project teams, and community groups to illustrate the services provided and the benefits of partnership.
- IRB experience preferred as Manager will provide IRB support to the WVPBRN partners.
- Grant WVPBRN members access to university library resources and research tools offered by WVCTSI and its partner institutions.
- Collaborate regularly with project teams to develop and execute cohesive strategies to advance the project's success, while fostering a positive work environment.
- Oversees the WVPBRN research protocol processes, and implementation of network policies and procedures, and provides necessary linkages and support to Network members and staff.
- Coordinate and attend meetings, seminars, symposia, and other events related to program efforts to encourage networking opportunities for partners.
- Lead the management of site recruitment efforts for projects for clinical teams and partnerships around the state.
- Manage the appropriate flow of information between researchers, partners, and community members for project implementation and translation.
- Mentor researchers and clinical staff to identify and develop WVPBRN research project ideas, literature searches, partnerships, protocols, and implementation workflows.
- Manage the activities of the CEO Community Advisory Board (CAB) relating to collaborating and participating in community-engaged projects within the core.
- Lead communication and meeting facilitation of the CAB on a regular basis to foster the growth and relationships among board members with researchers doing community-engaged research.
- Participate in writing of reports or other documentation of project/project program status and project results.
- Develop and maintain email and mailing distribution lists, databases, and website updates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical, business, or health-related field;
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience in program development/management;
- Demonstrated knowledge of or ability to quickly learn program protocol.
- Strong communication skills in interacting with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
- Strong organization and multi-tasking skills.
- Thorough knowledge of office methods, procedures, practices, and protocol.
- Group facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer utilizing various word processing packages such as Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. for reports, graphs, mailings and presentation development.
- Ability to simultaneously coordinate many different administrative tasks, determine relative importance of each, set deadline, and complete projects in a timely manner.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carryout instructions furnished in oral, written, or diagram form.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment and to coordinate participation of team members from various backgrounds.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to apply initiative in performing duties in a variety of subjects, programs, or projects.
- Demonstrated program administration or project management experience with exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to effectively address issues with several variables in standardized situations.
- Valid Driver's License
The WVURC was created as a not-for-profit corporation in 1985 to support research (R1) at West Virginia University. We provide evaluation, development, patenting, management, and marketing services for inventions of the faculty, staff and students of the University.
