The Department of University Relations at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Graphic Designer/Multimedia Specialist .
About the Opportunity
This position is design focused, primarily in print, to help facilitate the university's messaging for recruitment, events and departmental needs. Using an adept understanding of layout, hierarchy, typography and brand standards, this position will be responsible for creating various design pieces and helping to produce them to meet the needs of the university's mission

What you'll do:
- Conceive ideas and visual strategies in collaboration with copywriters and marketing team. Generate execute those strategies through original design work.
- Art direction; including but not limited to directing photoshoots, compiling design assets and working with copywriters, digital and video teams.
- Work with Operations team and Marketing team to ensure tasks and deadlines are met, as outlined. Work with vendors when necessary to complete a job. This includes building specs for print jobs, getting estimates for print and novelty items, choosing paper/materials/finishes specialty dies etc., pre-flighting documents for printing process.
- Work with Operations and Marketing teams to identify and record client needs, budgets, concepts, expectations.
- Work with Design team members to ideate and review department work — both active projects
and for brand cohesiveness across ongoing work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in design, photography, communications or related experience
- Oversee design projects, from conception to delivery
- Design original pieces, including illustrations, infographics and motion graphics Refine images, fonts and layouts using graphic design software
- Generate ideas to present concepts and to advertise products/services Increase user friendliness in digital products
- Maintain WVU brand consistency throughout all our marketing projects
- Liaise with marketing, communications, copywriting, photography, video and design teams to ensure deadlines are met Stay up-to-date with industry developments and tools
- Photography skill strongly preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of advertising, product promotion and services as they relate to a University environment Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud software
- Oral and written communication skills as they relate to communicating and presenting concepts
- Time management
- Driver's license -preferred so employee is able to drive to meetings, photoshoots, other job functions.
- 2-3 times per year: May require setting up displays, packaging, participation in on campus events (standing, handing out materials)
