Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and/or the Sr. Director of Facilities this position is responsible for the implementation of HVAC preventative maintenance programs, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of all HVAC related equipment including the chiller plant. In particular, t he HVAC/ Maintenance Technician will serve in a general capacity to provide support in every aspect of building maintenance with a focus on the HVAC plant operations and system component maintenance and associated record keeping. Located in downtown Tampa, the Straz offers a team-based work environment and a full package of benefits for full-time staff including options for health/dental, vision, etc., plus a generous 403(b) plan.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have a working knowledge of all associated hand-and power tools, meters and recording instruments.
- Must be able to read and work off blueprints and schematics.
- Must be able to comprehend chiller plant & EMS operation and monitor plant operation via home computer as needed.
- Strong background in electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical system repairs is required.
- Familiarity with building construction, maintenance practices in major facilities or plant environment is necessary.
- Must have strong organizational skills.
- Must have knowledge in the use of computerized energy management systems and HVAC control systems.
Education and Work Experience:
- Commercial HVAC technician, certification preferred with Commercial/ large facility background and appropriate universal refrigeration license as required by 40CFR.
- A minimum of 2 years as a chiller plant operator or commercial service technician.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- The employee continuously uses hand strength grasp tools and climb on ladders. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing their job duties.
- The employee must frequently engage in heavy labor including the ability to move up to 50 pounds such as a tool box. Occasionally, the employee will lift and/or move up to 100 pounds such as motors, furniture, lumber, etc.
- The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as motors, equipment, furniture, etc.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must be able to hear well enough to communicate with coworkers, in person, on the phone, or via radio and to be able to discern potential problems with equipment.
- Excellent balance is required as the employee at times works on high ladders and high roof areas. Employee must be able to work in, on and around large, dangerous pieces of equipment and power tools.
