The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea (MVH), is inviting
applications for the position of HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic II. This
crucial role requires someone adept in the installation, maintenance,
and supervision of a variety of heating, ventilating, air conditioning,

Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general summary and not
all inclusive) ? Supervise and assign tasks to employees, monitoring
their performance. ? Manage all duties related to the planning, design,
installation, modification, and repair of HVAC-related equipment. ?
Install, maintain, and repair a variety of HVAC and refrigeration
equipment. ? Monitor equipment for malfunctions, using various testing
tools to ensure optimal operation. ? Maintain, rebuild, and replace worn
or defective parts, and ensure proper levels of gases or fluids in
systems. ? Calculate heat loads for new installations and treat water
systems to prevent bacterial spread. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge
of the laws, rules and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
Knowledge of the policies, procedures, specifications and standards and
guidelines governing assigned unit activities. Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of the standard preventative maintenance and the safety
practices and procedures followed in the installation, maintenance and
repair of heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning and
electrical systems. Knowledge of the methods and techniques of pipe
threading. Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment and materials
used in heating, ventilation, refrigeration, air conditioning and

The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea is a Joint Commission
accredited inpatient veterans' facility owned and operated by the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is an independent State agency that
organizationally reports to the Department of Veterans Services. MVH
addresses the needs and provides support to approximately 350 veterans
24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Medical, nursing and clinical
supports are given to those residents residing in the Long-Term Care
Facility. The residential units support veterans who are living
independently but receive services and programs ranging from
psychosocial and social work, receive transitional assistance,
education, work and outreach programs. The resident population is
generally categorized into the following categories: Alzheimer, Long
Term Care and Domiciliary. Qualifications First consideration will be
given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. Minimum
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least two years of
full-time, or equivalent part- time technical experience in the
installation, maintenance and repair of heating, refrigeration,
ventilating and air conditioning systems, or (B) any equivalent
combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
Substitutions: I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized institution
above the high school level, as evidence of completion of a two year
program in refrigeration and heating, may be substituted for one year of
the required experience.* *Education toward such a certificate or
diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the
requirements actually completed. Special Requirements: Based on
assignment, a current and valid Massachusetts Refrigeration
Technician's License may be required.
