General Summary:
Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers—often referred to as HVACR technicians—work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control air quality in many types of buildings
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Installation, service, troubleshooting, and repairs including but not limited to; chillers, air handling units, controls, package units, split systems, exhaust fans, refrigerators, freezers, hot/chilled water pumps. Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program so previous experience is highly desirable.
- Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools.
- Cuts and threads pipe, using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment.
- Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using a torch, forming a complete circuit for the refrigerant.
- Installs expansion and discharge valves in the circuit.
- Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
- Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
- Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician’s hand tools and test equipment.
- Tasks ranging from operation of systems to the examination and evaluation of equipment to determine needed repairs
- Installs refrigeration and air conditioning systems by positioning compressors, motors, condensers, humidifiers, evaporators, heaters and other components in accordance with design specifications.
- Charges refrigeration systems with refrigerant gas tests for leaks.
- Starts unit and adjusts it for proper cut-in and cut-out of refrigeration units, humidifiers, heaters, air cleaners, and circulating pumps.
- Adjust systems for optimal performance.
- Maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems by checking performance and determining problems. Repairs, adjusts, or replaces defective elements.
- Installs, maintains and repairs the electrical and pneumatic systemsassociated with refrigeration and air conditioning equipment from thesafety switch throughout the equipment.
- Installs, maintains, repairs, operates all types centrifugal andreciprocating refrigeration/air-conditioning systems; also all types ofpneumatic/electro-mechanical temperature controls.
- Performs necessary plumbing procedures to ensure operation of systemsand equipment
- Performs preventive maintenance.
- Maintain and create Activity Hazard Analysis
- Involvement in Site’s predictive maintenance program.
- Keep records of all maintenance and repair work conducted.
- Assist others as part of the maintenance team as required
Knowledge, Experience and Skill Requirements:
- Ability to perform most complex and unusual tasks of the craft without supervision.
- Must be able to read and understand blueprints, construction drawings, schematics, and diagrams as they pertain to the craft.
- Must be able to read and understand the signs, signals, and operating instructions in use in accordance with EM 385-1-1.
- Ability to perform work of the craft in a rapid and efficient manner under extreme conditions.
- Must be able to perform work safely under hazardous conditions.
- Able to troubleshoot and repair most complex problems.
- Expert knowledge of craft theory and craft materials with the ability to apply the theory and select the proper materials.
- Trained in all types and sizes of air conditioning refrigeration and evaporative cooling equipment.
- Must be certified by a nationally recognized HVAC certification program(i.e., North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or ESCO Institute HVAC Excellence Professional Level Technician Certification).
- At least three (3) years of experience in healthcare facility.
- Must be able to pass a local background.
- Valid Driver License required with a good driving record.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
