TheControls Technician will be responsible for the installation, start-up, troubleshooting, commissioning, and servicing controlsystems for critical spaces. This position requires knowledge of HVAC systems, control devices,computer operations, electronics, direct digital controls, airflow, hydronic systems, IT networking, and building control techniques.
What you'll do:
- Perform hands-on installation and programming of HVAC control systems, including thermostats, sensors, actuators, and controllers, according to project specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct thorough system testing and commissioning to ensure proper functionality, performance, and compliance with design requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues and discrepanciesduring the installation and commissioning phases, utilizing your expertise and problem-solving skills.
- Ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
- Communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports.
- Provide service support on existing systems ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility's building engineers.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repair of commercial HVAC controls.
- Diagnose causes of breakdowns, test parts with appropriate instruments, disassemble and assemble parts, and make necessary repairs to equipment and associated components.
- Coordinate and perform customer training and ensure timely completion of project closeout documents.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:
- High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, or related technical degree preferred.
- 2+ years of experience with temperature control systems, HVAC systems, DDC controls, HVAC electronics, running conduit, and terminating wiring.
- 2+ years of experience installing and/or servicing electronic controls, HVAC, or other mechanical equipment.
- Thorough understanding of testing, validation and troubleshooting of large and complex controls systems.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical systems, equipment, and common controls sequences along with fundamental control theory and logic.
- Programming, hardware, and troubleshooting expertise with one or more Building Automation System platforms (Tridium, Siemens, Trane, Johnson Controls, Schneider Electric, etc.).
- Excellent critical thinking skills, self-motivation, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Proven analytical skills and attention to detail with ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, manuals, electrical diagrams, and control sequences.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, mechanical contractors, subcontractors, and fellow employees.
- Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Suite and related program software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Demands:
- This position requires consistent physical work at customer locations, spending much of your time on your feet.
- Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
- Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company needs.
- Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
- Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
