The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) provides services and support to over 50,000 students, faculty, and staff with the mission of advancing UCI's brilliant future and the vision of becoming world-class campus partners. Facilities Management is responsible for the effective operation of Irvine campus buildings, grounds and utilities; for providing a safe, functionally suitable and aesthetic environment in support of academic, research and public service programs of the University. Providing comprehensive management of campus facilities requires the employment of approximately 325 personnel ranging in classification from custodians and groundskeepers to more technical skilled crafts such as electricians and plumbers, and professional design staff and engineers. These services cover more than 150 buildings of approximately 6 million gross square feet, and1,475 acres of grounds. Facilities Management has an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million in expenditures, with operating funds of $30 million and $15 million for reimbursable campus activities. Project Services a construction department within Facilities Management manages a portfolio of major infrastructure and renovation projects totaling $200M per year.
Assists HVAC Supervisor with all functions of the refrigeration/HVAC/Metal shop. Assists with planning, coordinating, motivating Journeymen level mechanics. Provides leadership to the refrigeration specialists in the installation, repair, service, record keeping and maintenance of refrigeration, air conditioning, and process cooling equipment on campus. Intimately involved with system modifications, lay outs, construction practices and principles, code requirements, and record keeping that is an integral part of the proper handling of refrigerant in compliance with EPA section 608.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $52.22 (Hourly)
Required:
- Five years’ experience in scheduling, coordinating, and leading a crew of refrigeration service mechanics.
- Thorough knowledge of the mechanical operation and repair characteristics of various types of refrigeration/HVAC equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools of the refrigeration and air conditioning trades.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the refrigeration/HVAC industry.
- Ability to plan, lay out and oversee the work of skilled mechanics in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to enforce safety rules, regulations, and maintain refrigerant record keeping and work records.
- Strong interpersonal skills with staff, supervision, and all university stakeholders.
- Minimum of five years hands-on experience in the refrigeration and air conditioning field.
- Thorough knowledge of industry controls, electrical troubleshooting skills, and experience with system retrofit applications.
- Ability to read plans and blueprints and to calculate materials for job take-offs, and estimates.
- Ability to work effectively in a service oriented environment, subject to frequently changing priorities and demands.
- EPA Universal Technician Certification as specified in Section 608 of the Clean Air Act.
- Familiarity with EPA and SCAQMD rules and regulations regarding refrigerant usage and handling.
- Knowledge of effective supervisory techniques.
- Skill in the use and care of the tools and equipment of the refrigeration trade.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in scheduling, coordinating, and leading a crew of refrigeration service mechanics.
Preferred:
- Instructional skill in disseminating knowledge of control systems, equipment performance and design criteria to subordinates.
- An Associate degree/certificate from a technical/trade school specializing in refrigeration service work.
- Knowledge and experience with the UC Irvine Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge and experience in the AFL-CIO s Skilled Craft Union Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge of Refrigerant Compliance Manager Software.
Special Conditions:
- Must possess a valid California Driver License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice Program.
- Must be able to operate a Facilities Management vehicle
- Must be able to outside regularly scheduled shift
- Must be able to wear PPE
