We are currently seeking a talented Human Resources Manager to lead our People Operations function. In this pivotal role, you will oversee personnel and daily operations of the human resources department, driving our efforts towards employee satisfaction, customer delight, labor cost optimization, talent acquisition, and nurturing a high-performing workforce.
As the HR Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Manage all HR activities, communications, reports, requests, and documents created and received by the team.
- Lead projects by clarifying objectives, setting clear timelines and schedules, conducting research, developing and organizing information, analyzing results, and providing final findings and recommendations.
- Communicate with employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders regarding employee rights and obligations under various laws.
- Bridge management and employee relations by addressing needs associated with Workers' Compensation, Department of Transportation (DOT), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), payroll, grievances, or other issues.
- Strategically apply, monitor, and enforce employment laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Exercise People Operations discipline, providing a structure to ensure smooth day-to-day operational excellence.
- Craft engaging employee communications that activate people processes, initiatives, and programs.
- Manage employee relations by providing HR consulting expertise at all levels of the organization; identify trends and address root causes of issues.
- Process weekly union and non-union payroll for approximately 150+ employees.
- Ensure accuracy of payroll deductions and costs, as well as timely and accurate payment of payroll liabilities.
- Manage monthly union and benefits reporting.
- Oversee benefits administration, including enrollments, terminations, changes, and open enrollment.
- Ensure compliance with the company's procedures and practices for terminations and onboarding of new hires.
- Communicate with employees about compensation, benefits, and other aspects of their employment.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Human Resource roles within industrial organizations.
- Understanding of both California and Federal Labor code.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- Prior experience in building a scalable, operational support infrastructure of people systems and tools.
- Strong functional HR expertise in process development and project management.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Results-driven, with the ability to make decisions and help solve problems.
- Excellent organization, time management, delegation, and prioritization skills.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience running payroll on ADP, Paycom, Paychex, Paylocity, Workday, or another large Enterprise payroll provider.
- Previous experience with Labor Unions and working with Union representatives.
- Exposure to collective bargaining, negotiations, and consultations with labor unions.
- PHR/SPHR certification, preferred.
- Previous experience with implementation of department-appropriate software for HR, recruiting, and payroll.
- Knowledge/experience in the following industries: Food/beverage, hospitality, trucking, or manufacturing.
