Position Summary:
In collaboration with the leadership team, HR Manager ensures excellence related to all human resources matters by effectively managing all aspects of human resources of the Co-op including customer service, employment policies and practices, recruitment, staff development, compensation, and labor relations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external customers, including all employees and employment candidates.
- Ensure high level of customer service throughout Co-op through training and program development.
Employment Policies and Practices
- Consider and propose effective, equitable and legal human resource policies.
- Monitor application of policies for uniformity and fairness throughout all departments.
- Keep abreast of all state and federal employment laws and ensure compliance in all HR activities.
- Assist managers with implementation and documentation of performance management actions.
- Maintain accurate and complete personnel files for all employees.
- Maintain updated job descriptions for all positions.
Recruitment
- Oversee recruitment activities and maintain a pool of current qualified applicants.
- Work with managers to determine qualifications for open jobs.
- Support hiring process, as needed.
- Interview job applicants, check references, and make hiring recommendations.
- Plan for future labor needs with management team.
Staff Development
- Conduct onboarding orientation for new staff and monitor employee department training.
- Identify training needs and development opportunities for all employees.
- Coordinate training for managers and other staff in teamwork and group process skills.
- Ensure staff performance evaluations are conducted appropriately and on time.
Compensation
- Administer pay increases following established compensation guidelines and work with Payroll staff to ensure accurate and timely payment to employees.
- Administer benefits programs per established contracts, policies and legal requirements.
- Educate and act as a resource to employees with regard to benefits and insurance related issues.
Labor Relations
- Work with managers and staff to resolve personnel issues.
- Maintain strong working knowledge of policies and collective bargaining agreement.
- Participate in union contract (collective bargaining agreement) negotiations.
Management
- Participate in management team meetings, plans and initiatives.
- Develop and implement department plans, annual and multi-year.
- Manage HR department staff as necessary consistent with Co-op policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Desired Skills, Experience and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in human resource administration.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Organization skills and ability to pay attention to details.
- Demonstrated objectivity, neutrality, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
- Ability to cultivate a supportive and positive company culture and work well in the environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Ability to follow all safety policies and procedures of the Co-op.
- Excellent customer service to customers, vendors, and co-workers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule if necessary, based on business needs.
- Ability to follow attendance policies of Hunger Mountain Co-op.
- Experience working in a union environment.
- Bachelors or master's degree in human resources or business administration, or equivalent certification(s).
- Experience working in natural foods retail environment or related industry is preferred.
