About the Job
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources generalist will join the HR team and provide comprehensive human resources support for the forensic crime lab. This role involves fostering a positive work environment, ensuring compliance with employment laws and organizational policies, and serving as a trusted partner to employees and managers. The ideal candidate will bring a proactive approach to HR functions, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to adapt to the unique needs of a highly regulated and mission-driven workplace. Specific duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Benefits Administration
Administer employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave policies, and wellness initiatives. Conduct benefits orientations and provide ongoing support to employees regarding their benefits options. Partners with vendors and brokers to resolve benefits-related issues and ensure timely communication of plan updates. Monitors compliance with applicable laws such as FMLA, COBRA, and ACA, and ensure accurate documentation.
- Recruitment and Talent Acquisition
Manage the full recruitment lifecycle for forensic, technical, and administrative positions within the lab. Collaborate with hiring managers to create job postings, define role requirements, and develop sourcing strategies. Screen resumes, conduct interviews, and coordinate the selection process while ensuring compliance with equal opportunity regulations. Facilitate onboarding processes to integrate new hires effectively into the lab's culture and operations.
- Employee Relations
Serve as a trusted advisor to employees and management on workplace issues, promoting a culture of fairness and open communication. Partner with the Director of HR to investigate and resolve employee concerns, complaints, conflicts while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Assist in developing and enforcing policies and procedures to foster a respectful and compliant work environment. Support initiatives to enhance employee engagement, retention, and morale.
- Compliance and Recordkeeping
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including EEOC and HIPAA regulations. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records in compliance with organizational and legal standards. Respond to requests for Public Information and/or Subpoena requests in a timely manner Prepare reports and analyze HR metrics to inform leadership decisions.

Required Experience:
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field is required (SPHR certification is a plus).
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of three years of HR generalist experience is required, preferably in a government, law enforcement, or laboratory setting. Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations. Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proven experience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with Paylocity a plus. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
