About the Job
The BMC Corporate Functions HRBP team is looking for a HR Business Partner II with a focus on Employee Relations to join our team. This six month long contract position will cover a leave and manage employee relations across the Corporate Functions client groups (i.e., IT, Finance and Legal and Compliance and Marketing and Growth). As a key collaborator with HR peers, manages overall employment risk and employee relations from problem identification, through ,tion, to resolution. This role will partner with the Labor Relations team to optimize current practices and policies for our represented and non-represented employees. This role requires deep Employee Relations expertise and previous experience working in a union environment to support the overall employee experience. As a member of the Corporate Functions HRBP team will assist in other projects and HR Business Partner responsibilities as needed.
Manage employee relations issues by providing guidance, counsel and direction to managers and supervisors
Conduct investigations and address employee issues and complaints working in partnership with the HRBPs, and Labor Relations to make recommendations on appropriate courses of action
Provides guidance and assistance in the disciplinary action process; makes recommendations on the appropriate level of corrective action
Ensures ER cases are handled fairly and consistently in a timely fashion, and in line with company values and applicable laws
Is knowledgeable with regard to the hospital Collective Bargaining Agreements and works with appropriate parties in the interpretation and administration of such agreements
Uses sound business judgment to minimize the risk to the organization while directing management level staff on appropriate workplace practices
Develops effective relationships with HR Business Partners and other business stakeholders to ensure solutions are made collaboratively
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements
In conjunction with the HR Business Partners, evaluates organizational climate and issues, and facilitates improvements in the employee experience
Reviews and advises managers in creating Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) for employees who are not meeting performance expectations. Assists managers with the PIP process by attending regular meetings, taking notes, finding creative ways to improve the employee s performance
Acts as a liaison between the employee, manager and the union (if applicable) when making employment-related decisions; ,tes difficult conversations or advises managers & employees on how to have difficult yet productive conversations
Attends legal hearings (e.g. unemployment hearings, grievances, jury trials, EEOC hearings, arbitrations etc.) for the purpose of providing testimony and representing the best interests of Boston Medical Center as necessary
Supports other HR Business Partner responsibilities as needed
Job Requirements
EDUCATION:
Bachelor s required with a Master s preferred
EXPERIENCE:
At least 5 years HR and employee relations experience required as well as previous experience in a represented setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSA):
Self-starter who enjoys being part of a high functioning team
Comprehensive knowledge of relevant employment laws and understanding of labor relations
Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to diagnose problems, resolve conflict, and develop practical solutions
Ability to work effectively with and influence all levels of management and to communicate effectively with individuals from different cultures, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds
Strong level of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook) and web browsers
