Summary
The HSSE Manager is responsible for administering and monitoring Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental programs in compliance with company standards and local, state, and federal regulations. This role ensures a safe working environment, enforces compliance with safety programs, identifies at-risk conditions, and implements effective corrective and preventive actions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Foster a culture of safety by maintaining and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in workplace safety practices, injury prevention, fire prevention, and the proper handling of chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other safety-related materials.
Promote a learning culture to reduce HSSE risks and maintain a safe, compliant work environment for all personnel.
Compile and present monthly safety tracking reports and other safety-related reports as needed.
Manage accident, injury, and incident reporting, conducting investigations to identify causes and implement preventive measures while protecting the organization from fraudulent workers’ compensation claims.
Conduct regular training sessions on HSSE-related topics.
Support the implementation of environmental and sustainability practices that exceed industry standards and expectations.
Stay informed of updates to environmental and safety legislation.
Update and advise on HSSE policies and safe working methods as needed.
Facilitate incident investigations and support workplace inspections, behavior-based observations, and environmental compliance audits.
Conduct area HSSE inspections to ensure policy adherence and identify nonconformities or deficiencies.
Assist in planning, developing, implementing, and administering health, safety, and emergency programs.
Administer first aid for minor injuries and coordinate medical services for cases requiring external care.
Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (equivalent experience may substitute for the degree).
2–5 years of experience in a related position within a manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, assembly, testing, quality assurance, and material handling.
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and local and state regulations.
Work Environment
Split time: 20% office environment, 80% manufacturing floor. Exposure to potential shop hazards, including high noise levels and heavy machinery.
Ability to stand and walk for up to 50% of the time.
Must be able to work independently and effectively resolve safety-related issues.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Flexible availability, with the majority of work occurring during the 2nd shift.
Strong multitasking and prioritization skills to complete tasks within deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
Experience conducting instructor-led training sessions.
