Position Summary:
The Incumbent provides administrative, analytical, payroll, and staff and academic personnel support for Life Sciences Core Curriculum Group, which consists of LS Core and CEILS. Under the general direction of the LS Core/CEILS CAO and in conjunction with the CAO, the incumbent manages the employment of academic apprentice, staff, casual/restricted personnel, Academic Administrators (AAs), and Academic Coordinators (ACs), working independently and collaboratively in roles such as an UCPath Initiator and Approver, Submit on Behalf of (SOBO), Inquirer role in UCPath for General Ledger, and administering UC policies and procedures for the employment of Academic Apprentices, Staff/Casual and Restricted Personnel, Academic Administrators and Academic Coordinators.

1. Detailed knowledge of staff, academic, and academic apprentice personnel/HR policies and procedures sufficient to advise faculty, supervisors, and staff on all aspects of employment, including leaves, termination, FMLA, probation, benefits, evaluations, and detailed knowledge of impacts on practice of FMLA, ADA, FLSA, HIPAA, and FERPA. - Required (Required)2. Detailed knowledge of payroll policies and procedures sufficient to advise supervisors and employees on all aspects of pay (timing, frequency, deductions, etc.), including demonstrated experience processing payroll at the departmental level. (Required)3. Detailed knowledge of University time reporting and leave accrual policies and procedures. (Preferred)4. Detailed knowledge of the Student Information Systems (SIS) and the Graduate and Undergraduate award transmittal process to correctly obtain information and generate payments for academic apprentice personnel. (Preferred)5. Analytical ability to interpret policies, procedures, and payroll figures/data and the ability to accurately convey information to individuals. - Required (Required)6. Demonstrated skill in supervising staff, including: organization of work flow, delegating responsibility, training, motivating, evaluating, hiring, counseling and ability to supervise effectively and to create a team atmosphere that fosters collaboration. (Required)7. Ability to deal tactfully and diplomatically with University staff, officials, and students in a professional, clear, and helpful manner and with employees and supervisors on sensitive matters. (Required)8. Working knowledge of PC applications for database, document, and spreadsheet applications to prepare correspondence, reports, and analyses. (Required)9. Demonstrated experience in using on-line applications from various sources for payroll and benefits processing, payroll transactions reconciliation (i.e., LAPSDB, COGNOS, LSIG, UCPath, work-study website, directory, I-9 Tracker, UCLA Box, etc.). (Preferred)10. Excellent verbal and written communicate skills to deliver concise, logical and grammatically correct forms, correspondence, and memos with faculty, staff, and students. (Required)11. Skill in using other UCLA on-line systems, such as UCPath, Dossier database, UC Recruit, OPUS, Interfolio, I-9 Tracker, dossier database (www.faculty.ucla.edu), Iron Mountain on-line, UCOATS, and TRS.
