Codexis, a biotechnology company based in Redwood City, CA, is looking to hire a HR Business Partner (HRBP).Codexis is a leading enzyme engineering company leveraging its proprietary CodeEvolver® technology platform to discover, develop and enhance novel, high-performance enzymes and other classes of proteins. Codexis enzymes solve for real-world challenges associated with small molecule pharmaceuticals manufacturing and nucleic acid synthesis. The Company is currently developing its proprietary ECO Synthesis™ platform to enable the scaled manufacture of RNAi therapeutics through an enzymatic route. Codexis enzymes can drive improvements, such as higher yields, reduced energy usage and waste generation, improve efficiency in manufacturing and greater sensitivity in genomic and diagnostic applications.

About the Opportunity: We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to leaders and employees, helping to drive organizational effectiveness and supporting the full employee lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a solid HR background, strong business acumen, and a passion for fostering a positive, high-performance culture in a dynamic environment. This role will be based in Redwood City, CA.
In this role you will be responsible for: Strategic Partnering: Work closely with leaders throughout the organization to understand business goals and align HR strategies to support these objectives. Provide insights and recommendations to help drive people-related action and promote a high-performance culture.
Employee Relations: Act as a first point of contact for employees and managers on HR-related matters, ensuring fair and consistent policy application. Resolve complex employee relations issues through coaching and support.
Talent Acquisition: Partner with hiring managers to understand hiring needs and provide guidance developing workforce plans to address skill, capacity and capability gaps across the organization. Collaborate with recruiters and hiring managers to ensure an efficient recruitment process. Participate in interviewing, selecting, and onboarding talent.
Performance Management: In partnership with Talent Management, lead the execution of performance management initiatives, including goal setting, performance appraisals, and feedback processes, ensuring alignment with company culture and objectives and fostering employee development.
Learning and Development: Identify training and development needs and collaborate with managers and Talent Management to develop and deliver relevant learning programs that support employee growth and meet business objectives.
Compensation and Benefits: Support managers in implementing and communicating compensation changes and rewards programs. Collaborate with HR Operations and Total Rewards to communicate compensation philosophy
Organizational Development: Work collaboratively on initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness, including change management, culture-building, and team development programs. Drive execution of programs that promote engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
The essential requirements of the job include: Experience: 5+ years of HR experience, with a minimum of 3 years as an HR Business Partner or in a similar strategic HR role. Experience in a dynamic, life-sciences (or related) environment is a plus.
Education: Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR) is a plus.
HR Knowledge: Strong understanding of HR best practices, employment law, and current trends in HR, including talent management, performance management, and employee relations.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust, influence, and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to manage complex employee relations issues and support business leaders with data-driven insights and creative solutions.
Business Acumen: Strong business acumen with the ability to understand the organization’s goals, navigate competing priorities, and align HR initiatives accordingly.
Adaptability: Demonstrated resilience working in a dynamic environment with the flexibility to manage change and pivot as priorities shift. Demonstrated resilience.
CODEXIS PAY TRANSPARENCY: The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in Redwood City is $128,000 to $152,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Codexis is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
