Job Description:
A private family of five (two adults and three children, ages 5, 10, and 13) on the Upper East Side of NYC seeks a dedicated and experienced full-time, live-out Housekeeper/Cook. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and flexible, with a proactive attitude and a passion for maintaining a warm, welcoming home.
Responsibilities:
- Daily cleaning, tidying, and maintenance of bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and living spaces.
- Organization of closets, cabinets, and storage areas.
- Laundry and ironing, including delicate fabrics and steam pressing.
- Seasonal closet organization and coordinating dry cleaning pickups and drop-offs.
- Handling miscellaneous tasks such as opening packages, sorting mail, and gift wrapping.
- Organizing children’s clothing and packing/unpacking for trips.
- Pet care for a 1.5-year-old fully housetrained puppy.
- Managing household supplies and inventory, placing orders, or running errands as needed.
Cooking Duties:
- Preparing simple, healthy, well-balanced meals for the family, focusing on fresh ingredients.
- Meal planning and grocery shopping.
- Cleaning and organizing the kitchen after meals.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Running occasional errands as needed.
- Assisting with family events, including tablescape preparation, flower arranging, coat organization, and serving drinks/hors d'oeuvres.
- Providing flexibility to work some weekends, if required.
- Overseeing vendors and contractors working in the home.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of experience as a housekeeper/cook in a private home.
- Excellent cooking skills with the ability to accommodate family preferences.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Flexibility in schedule, including occasional weekend availability.
- Comfort working in a home with children and pets, respecting family routines.
- Experience caring for fine furnishings, antiques, china, silver, marble floors, and artwork.
- Valid U.S. work authorization.
- Strong telephone and communication skills.
- Experience assisting with parties, formal dinners, and events, including formal dinner service.
- Childcare assistance experience, including school drop-offs/pickups and nanny support.
