House Manager (RN) - Bed Utilization - Bronson Battle Creek - PRN63111019 The House Manager is responsible for supporting the operations and patient care services of the organization. The House Manager utilizes effective leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions. They provide immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments and coordinates hospital-wide activities as necessary to resolve problem situations as they arise and often in the absence of unit leaders. Works independently as well as with others. Bachelor's degree in nursing and three to five years of progressively more responsible experience in the hospital or elsewhere. Masters in Nursing/HCA preferred. Previous leadership positions of charge nurse, unit coordinator or manager required. Overall knowledge of disaster planning and certification in IS courses highly preferred. Weekends as needed. Mental & Visual Fatigue: Work which produces very high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g. CRT work between 70 and 90 percent of the time, and work involving extremely close tolerances and considerable hand/eye coordination for sustained periods of time. Physical Effort: Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as, assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required. Life Support Certification Required: BLS; ACLS; PALS
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), 3-4 years formal education/training, and 3-5 years’ experience required

• Implementation of quality nursing care with all members of patient care team through unit presence, patient/department rounds and ongoing mentoring/teaching of staff.
• Demonstrates commitment to providing excellent customer service in a manner that is reflective of our mission, values and customer service standards.
• Coordinates and adjusts staffing for all units, in collaboration with the Charge Nurses, taking into account the number of patients and their acuity, available nursing staff, and the level of experience and skills of the staff. Assigns or reassigns staff as appropriate to maintain safe, competent levels of care in all patient areas.
• Conducts regular rounds to determine nursing unit activity, level of patient care, and to assist with problem resolution.
• Provides input to department Managers for the objective evaluation of performance at designated times or as necessary.
• Coordinates hospital-wide activities, particularly for those areas where the department heads or a supervisor are not available. Contacts or informs managers/supervisors of other departments of issues or problems and their resolution.
• Coordinates all admissions and acts as the transfer liaison for the hospital. Makes bed assignments. Notifies operating room team and coordinates emergency surgeries with surgeons, OR, anesthesia personnel, and anesthesiologists.
• Coordinates activities with all outside organizations or their representatives such as other health care facilities, law enforcement agencies, or the media. Provides appropriate information according to established policy.
• Serves as a clinical resource in the handling of unusual or more difficult cases.
• Resolves routine operating problems, crisis, and conflicts as they arise during the assigned shift. Provides analysis and assessment of more complex problems that need immediate attention from supervisor or administrator on call. Investigates problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians, and other members of the health team. Implements appropriate action in collaboration with Charge Nurse and Manager.
• Participates in hospital unit education and improvement measures (e.g., staff meetings, quality assessment and improvement activities, patient-nursing committees, implementation of new policies and procedures, forms and planned changes to improve patient care).
• Obtains supplies or equipment for units who are unable to send personnel to other areas such as medical records, blood, medication, etc.
• Performs a wide assortment of clinical duties such as starting difficult IVs, assisting with direct patient care, coordinating organ donations, troubleshooting equipment problems, managing crises or emergency situations, and so forth.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of developments in the clinical aspects of nursing.
• Maintains intershift communications with other supervisory and managerial personnel to maintain continuity of care.
• Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
• Maintains a safe workplace by keeping work area free of hazards and correcting and/or properly reporting any safety hazards.
• Uses correct body positioning, proper body mechanics to avoid injury, utilizes safe work practices (e.g. pushing vs. pulling, patient transfer/lifting devices, etc.) and uses personal protective equipment when necessary.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
