Shift Time: 7:30am - 4:00pm Job Summary: Responsible for assisting in all aspects of the landscaping and plant bed maintenance of all grounds on industrial, airport, commercial or public property such as buildings, camp and picnic grounds, airfields, parks, playgrounds, greenhouses, and athletic fields. Ensure day to day production schedules and operations of the state site grounds maintenance contract are met. Assist in managing cost center purchasing and budget by ensuring minimum waste of equipment, products and materials assigned to crew. Position requires strong interpersonal skills and compassion and respect for persons with disabilities. This position is seasonal. The work will start on 1 April and go through Nov/Dec of each year.Essential Functions: Operations Supervision 50%

- Comply with all Agency policies and procedures and follow contract specifications
- Responsible for directing the day to day operations of the state site grounds maintenance contract and implementing programmatic and administrative policies and procedures in order to attain company goals and objectives.
- Supervise work designated by the Project Manager; to include but not limited to: The day-to- day performance of their assigned crew and have overall responsibility for the work being performed.
- Review and implement safety procedures to meet state and company standards; monitor activities where accidents may occur, halting any operation or activity that constitutes an imminent hazard to personnel or equipment and assists in the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support.
- Provide technical and procedural guidance to a grounds labor crew of up to 10 laborers performing one or more of the following tasks: Cut grass, using farm tractors, batwing mowing deck, riding mowing w/ 60/72" mowing decks, or walk behind type (less than 2000 lbs.).
- Schedule and inspect assigned work.
- Evaluate turf grass for disease, drought effects and invasive vegetation institute; recommend remedies.
- Trim edges around walks, plant beds and other areas designated within the contract statement of Work, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools.
- Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools.
- Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs. Cultivate planting beds.
- Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or activating sprinkler system.
- Pick up and burn or cart away leaves, paper or other litter.
- Remove snow from walks, driveways, roads, or parking lots, using shovel and snow blower.
- Spread salt on walkways and other areas.
- Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails and outbuildings.
- Assist in repairs of roads, walks, buildings and mechanical equipment.
- May clean comfort stations, office and workshop areas, and parking lots by sweeping, blowing, washing, mopping and polishing.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with government facility staff.
- Foster an atmosphere that promotes Human Rights for all clients and ensures training, incident reporting, appropriate counseling documentation, and awareness of responsibilities of all personnel regarding Human Rights matters.
- Responsible for working with a positive team spirit and producing quality work.
- Responsible for appropriate conduct and demeanor as dictated by Chimes Policy.
- Attend meetings with government, facility, and customer representatives
- Observe, manages and provide feedback to all staff to ensure accurate job completion
- Ensure compliance with dress code and personal hygiene standards for self and staff
- Comply with and ensure staff compliance with all facility security/safety requirements
- Work cooperatively with HR regarding disciplinary concerns and to sustain employment for individuals with disabilities
- Ensure timely, accurate completion of employee evaluations and employee communications
- Work with outside agency staff and job coaches to aid Chimes employees
- Pass and comply with CPR/First Aid training
- Maintain the appropriate credentials/background check as required by contract.
Essential Functions: Administrative 40%
- Liaison with the Assistant Project Manager (if applicable), Project Manager, Contract Administrator, Director of Operations to ensure all services are within contract specifications.
- Direct grounds laborers; provide quality assurance (in conjunction with the Quality Control Team) and ensure rework services are completed when required.
- Perform on-the-job safety and hazard training, as well as training in task procedures and requirements.
- Monitor customer concerns and service schedules.
- Assume the duties and responsibilities of Project Manager in their absence.
- Assist Team Leaders as assigned by the Project Manager.
- Cooperate effectively in all interactions with management, supervisory staff, co-workers and disabled program participants.
- Read and interpret a myriad of documents; to include but not limited to site maps, equipment operating maintenance manuals, state government contracts, grounds SOPs/specifications, and schedules.
- Learn and operate proficiently the MAXIMO Reporting System.
Essential functions: Liaison with Project Manager
- Be on call 24 hours a day to assist the Project Manager with the contractual specifications.
- Serve as primary liaison between the corporate office and its clients and staff.
- Serve as a team builder, who is responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive and constructive team spirit among all Chimes site staff members.
- Act as the Project Manager, with full duties and responsibilities, in the absence of the Project Manager.
- Assure appropriate conduct and decorum as dictated Chimes policy and procedure.
- Complete required paperwork and/or documentation.
- Complete and maintain all Chimes required trainings.
- Project a positive and professional image to the public, co-workers and Chimes clients.
- As assigned, drive company vehicle to transport equipment, material and personnel to assigned work stations.
Secondary Functions:
- Serve as a liaison with community agencies and job coaches to aid Chimes employees
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff development programs
- Assume other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as needed

Other requirements:
- Valid, insurable driver's license from state of residence and ability to drive
- Ability to receive and maintain Secret Clearance
- Must be able to pass DOT health physical
- License must have been valid for at least 3 years
- If driving a 15 passenger van, must be at least 25 years old
- Acceptable driving record as determined by Agency's insurance carrier and by Chimes DC policies and procedures
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must read, speak and comprehend English

- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Valid CPR/FA certification preferred
- Knowledge of Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance Operations
- Knowledge of landscaping regulatory standards
- Knowledge of MD Dept. of Agriculture pesticide applicator regulations
- Knowledge about regulations for SDS, Fire and Safety, Hazard Communications and Bloodborne Pathogens
Experience:
- One (1) years' experience as a Lad Worker for a commercial landscape or federal grounds maintenance contractor and one (1) year experience as a Supervisor of a five man landscape plant bed maintenance crew.
- Valid Maryland State herbicide/Pesticide License or must obtain one no later than six (6) months after acceptance of position.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to tolerate and work efficiently in stressful and/or harsh weather environments, along with ability to be self-motivated
- Valid driver's license and DOT physical certification.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Demonstrated ability and knowledge of landscaping/grounds maintenance service management as well as relevant equipment and chemicals and their applications and ability to instruct others in proper use and operators' maintenance.
- Must possess strong communication skills including the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; to write routine reports and correspondence, and to present information to groups of employees.
- Ability to interact, train and resolve the personnel issues of grounds maintenance staff, including those with disabilities. Must also project a positive and professional image to the public, co-workers, and Chimes clients.
