Job Description/Responsibilities:Description: The Homeplace Horticultural Supervisor oversees employees responsible for enhancements and daily maintenance of the Buffalo Trace grounds and arboretum; responsible for employee training, seasonal planning, and management of work order system to achieve the primary objective of keeping the arboretum and grounds in show conditions. The Homeplace team performs a diversity of tasks including holiday and event set up, building repairs and maintenance, and fabrication of some Gift Shop merchandise just to name a few.
Job Duties:
- Ensure Buffalo Trace grounds and arboretum are in show condition at all times and ensure National Landmark status is maintained.
- Oversee the overall health of the Buffalo Trace plant collection. Assist with overall horticultural maintenance program.
- Distribute daily assigned tasks appropriately to the grounds staff, oversee and inspect all work that is performed. Ensure correct horticultural practices are executed to the highest standards.
- Assist with updating plant records database and maintain labelling for the collection.
- Lead training and develop comprehensive cultural practice programs for technicians assigned to the work duties for the grounds.
- Execute plan for seasonal color and landscape enhancements.
- Assist with weekly garden and arboretum tours.
- Assist with execution of public educational events and programs related to arboretum accreditation requirements.
- Support overall safety program through excellence in project management.
- Assist with overall plan for arboretum development and achievement of botanical garden accreditation.
- Assist with scheduling and planning for grounds team working directly with the Homeplace Planner/Coordinator and Management Team.
- Assist with development of Homeplace grounds SOPs
- Assist with managing outside contractor for grounds related work.
Salary range - $68,754 - $85,942
*Placement within the salary range is calculated based upon years of directly relatable experience for the position
Qualifications/Requirements:Education & Experience:
- Associates degree or higher in the field of horticulture from an accredited university.
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory or management in the horticultural field.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of plant species and ornamental horticulture and all phases of care and plant culture.
- Strong supervisory, training and communication skills.
- Strong public engagement and speaking skills.
- Ability to work with a team, problem solve, and organize.
- Knowledge of plant collections database software and practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail and drive for results.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to pick up and/or move objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
