POSITION SUMMARY
Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation is excited to add a Historic Site Manager to the team! This position will oversee management and operations of Latta Place, which is scheduled to open to the public in 2026. This role will serve a critical role as part of the Historic Latta Reimagined Subcommittee. This includes but is not limited to site improvements, project management, community engagement and external marketing for the facility. The incumbent will assist with coordination of programs associated with the MeckRoots and Meck250 campaigns including attendance at weekend special events and assist with historic research related to interpretation at Latta Place and other Park & Recreation historic sites. Once the site opens to the public, this position will be responsible for visitor services, supervision of interpretive and administration staff and coordination of operations and maintenance staff. The preferred candidate has the ability to empathize with diverse perspectives and a demonstration of competency in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and accessibility issues. This full-time position may be required to work evenings and weekends based upon business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 4 years’ experience in interpretive programming with a focus on historic/cultural resources
- Experience managing a historic site
- Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) certification, or the ability to obtain
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manage overall operations and fiscal management of a historic site
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise full time permanent and various temporary staff
- Develop and implement hands-on, place-based, historic and civics education programs for all ages
- Design thematic lesson plans, pre-and post-visit activities, and program assessment methods
- Coordinate summer camps, service-learning opportunities, and special events
- Coordinate a comprehensive volunteer program in support of site initiatives
- Develop and implement workshops for teachers and non-formal educators
- Develop, design, and maintain educational exhibits, native plant gardens, and interpretive brochures
- Strengthen existing partnerships and create new ones through networking and cooperative projects
- Coordinate marketing efforts for programs, workshops, special events, and site initiatives
- Enforce and educate the public on nature preserve rules and regulations
- Relate the benefits of parks and recreation, nature preserves, and historic education to the public
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: Minimum six (6) years in social studies education/interpretive programming and one (1) year of supervisory experience and budget management.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Social Studies Education, Interpretation, Public History, History, or a related field.

- Licenses/Certifications: Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite

- Expert understanding of North Carolina history and be familiar with historic site operations
- Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Principles and processes for providing customer services; including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction
- The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
- Laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, and agency rules, and the political climate
