An HIM (Health Information Management) Technical Analyst plays a crucial role in healthcare organizations, typically focusing on managing and optimizing electronic health records (EHR) systems and other health information technologies. This analyst will typically possess a combination of technical, analytical, and healthcare-specific skills to effectively manage health information systems and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Here are the typical Job Duties performed by this analyst, and following are skillsets required for this role: HIM Technical Analyst Job Duties: * Implementing, configuring, and maintaining health information systems such as EHR systems, health information exchanges (HIE), and other related applications. * Solution specific skillsets: * Advanced Capture (OH) * Optum360 * eSignature * Work Que Monitor (WQM) * Dragon Medical One * Patient Portal (OH) * XR Chart Reporting (OH) * Overseeing the management of health information databases, ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA). * Analyzing workflows and processes related to health information management to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement. * Providing technical support to end-users (e.g., healthcare providers, administrative staff) on health information systems. This includes troubleshooting issues, resolving system errors, and answering user queries. * Technical Skillsets: * Kofax across Citrix * Scanner Driver Installation – TWAIN Driver Support * iPad for signature * Dragon – Philips Speech Mics and Drivers * Mobile Mic – Mobile Phones * Enterprise Document Manager (EDM) * eFax (RightFax) * Collaborating with IT teams and vendors to plan and execute system upgrades, enhancements, and optimizations to improve system performance and functionality. * Ensures HIM practices and systems comply with regulatory standards, such as HIPAA and other privacy laws. * Documenting system configurations, user manuals, and procedures. Generating reports and analytics related to HIM for internal and regulatory purposes. * Participating in quality improvement initiatives related to HIM and system usability. * Leading or participating in projects related to the implementation of new health information technologies or system enhancements. * Collaborating with other departments (e.g., IT, clinical departments) to address cross-functional issues and ensure smooth operation of health information systems. * Conducting training sessions for end-users to educate them on new system features, updates, and best practices in HIM. Education/Experience: · Degree in Health Information Management or Information Systems or related field required; or college level study leading to a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification by the American Health Information Management Association. Bachelor’s Degree in related field (As Described Above) + 1 year work experience o 3 years education + 3 years work experience o 2 years education + 5 years work experience o 1 year education + 7 years work experience o 0 college education + 9 years work experience Additional Experience Preferred: * Proficiency in using and managing electronic health record (EHR) systems, health information exchanges (HIE), and other related health information technologies. * Understanding of database structures and management, including data integrity, security, and querying * Experience in implementing, configuring, and supporting health information systems, including troubleshooting technical issues and providing user support. * Ability to analyze data, generate reports, and provide insights to support decision-making and compliance with regulatory requirements. * Skills in managing projects related to system upgrades, implementations, and optimizations within healthcare settings. * In-depth understanding of HIM principles, practices, and workflows within healthcare organizations. * Knowledge of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, HITECH Act, and other privacy and security standards governing HIM. * Familiarity with medical terminologies, coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, CPT), and healthcare billing practices. * Understanding of clinical workflows and processes in healthcare delivery settings. * Ability to analyze and optimize workflows related to health information management systems and processes. * Capability to identify system issues, diagnose problems, and implement effective solutions. * Capacity to evaluate information, assess implications, and make informed decisions to support healthcare operations. * Strong interpersonal skills to provide effective technical support and training to end-users (e.g., healthcare providers, administrative staff). * Proficiency in documenting system configurations, procedures, and user manuals. * Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including IT professionals, clinicians, and administrators, to achieve organizational goals and initiatives. * Readiness to learn and adapt to new health information technologies, system upgrades, and industry trends. * Commitment to continuous learning and improvement in HIM practices, regulations, and technical skills. * Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adherence to ethical standards in handling health information.
