Heavy Equipment Operator
St Louis Composting, producer of STA-Certified Compost, Mulch Products and Soil Blends, is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator to work at our various St. Louis area MO sites. Sites are as follows: Belleville IL, downtown St. Louis MO 63147, Eureka/Pacific MO, Florissant MO, Maryland Heights MO, St. Peters MO, and Valley Park MO.
This position entails operating heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant policies and procedures.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from customer trucks, haul trucks, material bins, etc.
- Perform assignments outlined by supervisors and standard procedures are followed in the performance of duties. Work is inspected periodically for safety and economy in operation.
- Performs routine maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order.
- Maintain and review maintenance logs for repairs.
- Maintain an effective system of communications with supervisors, drivers and crew, laborers and operators, and customers serviced.
- Safely operate loader and perform mechanic and general labor duties.
- Perform all duties in a safe manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions, maintain good housekeeping around the plant site.
- Perform daily safety inspections, report defects or problems for equipment operated.
- Load bins to ensure appropriate stock levels and load haul trucks while maintaining safe area for stock piling and customer load out.
- Use safe practices in all activities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of heavy equipment operator experience.
- Must be able to read and understand English.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Must be able to successfully pass an extensive drug screening, which includes urine, hair and breath alcohol testing.
- Must be willing to submit to a criminal background screening.
- Basic mechanical maintenance knowledge and skills.
- Proven safety record.
- Able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
- Able to perform all of the work outdoors in varying weather.
- Must be willing to work shift and/or overtime hours during the week including after dark hours, and/or weekends, and holidays as dictated by operations.
- Must be able to follow instructions, take direction well and be able to adapt to changes in the operation.
- Must be a strong team player willing to help out wherever necessary and have a "can do" attitude.
- Must have a strong work ethic and be able to remain busy the entire day, looking for new tasks or where else to help when your tasks are completed.
- Must be able to work well in a high volume, fast-paced environment with strict deadlines.
