SUMMARY
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment on the site. The employee must be able to work 8-to-12-hour, rotating shifts on all types of pipe laying operations and marine construction projects. Must be able to provide transportation to and from the jobsite(s). Extensive travel is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Additional duties may be assigned.
- Operates a wide variety of equipment including but not limited to the following. Cat 385 track excavator, Cat 966 end loader, 50,000lb forklift, rock slinger and miscellaneous small equipment. Must be able to operate these pieces of equipment in an efficient and safe manner.
- Assists the foreman and crews in the construction of coffer cells, temporary trestle, laying 54” concrete pipe, loading and unloading of deliveries, equipment, and materials via trucks, barges, etc.
- Must have experience with cut/fill operations, rock/riprap placement, subgrade excavation. Need basic understanding of grade control equipment.
- Performs daily inspections, light maintenance, upkeep of the equipment and other incidental work association with the operation of the shore disposal area and completes paperwork and submits to superintendent.
- Performs JSAs prior to work activity and executes the work accordingly and maintains and ensures a safe working environment.
- Ensures compliance with Manson’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Business Conduct.
- Responsible for practicing safe work standards and promoting an Incident and Injury Free (IIF) work environment as a condition of employment
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
SKILLS, EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE
3+ years’ experience as a heavy equipment operator. Must have ability to give and receive, understand, respond and follow verbal and written communications and instructions. Must be able to communicate, take direction well, and work cooperatively with other colleagues.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid picture identification required. Valid Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position, including:
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water
- Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery in marine dredging and marine construction job sites
- Able to wear the personal protective equipment (PPE) required of various construction work environments (hard hats, personal floatation devices, safety glasses, respirators, etc.)
