Example of Duties
- Under general supervision, performs skilled maintenance and repairs on operational heavy equipment.
- Work involves the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment including removing and installing engines, transmissions or differentials from garbage trucks or small trucks.
- Employee is also responsible for routine maintenance.
- Work also involves removing, rebuilding or replacing hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic pumps, replaces or fixes tires, replaces brake shoes, brake drums, wheel seals, brake chambers, removes, repairs or replaces wheels, tracks, bearings, seals, gears drive lines, welds on trucks and other related heavy equipment.
- Employee is responsible for performing department of motor vehicle inspections on heavy trucks, pickups and trailer to ensure compliance with state regulations.
- Reports to the Assistant Director, Solid Waste.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma; two years’ experience in fleet maintenance or industrial equipment repair; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required upon hire and duration of employment. Out of state driver’s license will be accepted only if the individual is a permanent resident of that state.
- Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, Motor Vehicle Records driver license check, as well as submit to random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing. A criminal background check must be completed by the County of Robeson for potential applicants
