Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Vets Hired

About the Job
Diagnose & perform major and minor repairs to all types of fleet equipment including but not limited to front end loaders, excavators, drag lines, ready-mix trucks, semi road tractors, and bulk cement trailers. Work performed in the shop and in the field as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Main Responsibilities
- Adopt the Companys safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives
- Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
- Use diagnostic equipment, visual inspection, and other tools to diagnose faults or malfunctions to identify required repairs
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools
- Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers specifications
- Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings as vital to ensure proper operation of equipment
- Install new ignition systems, change/charge batteries, and replace transmissions and other parts
- Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks and equipment, and makes adjustments
- Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles
Skills
- High school graduate or GED
- Technical school in related field a plus
- 3 or more years of experience as a diesel/heavy equipment mechanic preferred
- Proven experience with Cat, Komatsu and Volvo equipment and diagnostic software
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
- Basic computer skill, including ability to operate mobile device (phone, tablet, etc.) and related applications
General Requirements
- Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) preferred
- Valid DOT medical card and or ability to acquire
- Have own Mechanics tools
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift or move up to 100 pounds
- Able to stand, walk, sit, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Able to work in high and sometimes confined spaces
- Able to work in wet and/or dry conditions and extreme heat and cold
