DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Under direct supervision of the Superintendent or designee, the Health Science Administrator has primary responsibility and authority to administer the Nursing Assistant Programs. This position reports on matters relating to teaching, advising students, student training, utilizing and teaching the state required Nursing Assistant curriculum, program revisions, clinical site management, textbook selection (if applicable), and Nursing Assistant pass rates on state examinations in accordance with the mission, core values, and purposes of our organization.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review, update and coordinate curricula for the Certified Nursing Assistant health careers classes.
- Coordinates with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) the status of all the Valley ROP CNA courses.
- Write policies and procedures as needed to insure CNA programs are within State regulations.
- Maintains school records in compliance with California Department of Public Health (CDPH), prepares reports as required.
- Oversees and updates the Valley ROP Student CNA Handbook for K-12 and Adult Courses.
- Assists in recruiting Teachers who qualify to teach the CNA courses.
- Coordinates the academic, didactic, laboratory and clinical education within the CNA program; collaborates with CNA teachers to create and maintain up-to date course syllabi to include level schedules, course descriptions, textbooks, pre-requisites, clinical hours, ect.
- As necessary, coordinate Advisory Committee meetings--fall and spring--for inter campus meetings for unified effort.
- Oversee and delegate the ordering of common supplies for all programs (i.e., CNA pins, TB Solution, etc.)
- Coordinate revision of competencies for Certificates of Completion.
- Sign CDPH 283 B forms for non--RN instructors
- Assists collecting information about CNA test results for all programs
- Coordinates DSD meetings.
- Assist with preparations for CNA completion ceremonies.
- Act as reference for the Valley ROP Director of Instruction and other Instructors as needed for curriculum, student and any other Health Careers program issues.
- Monitor agreements with our community classroom sites, and assists finding new partnerships for clinical opportunities.
- Oversee and manage student Discipline with Health Careers programs.
- Evaluations of Instruction for California Department of Public Health Program review.
- Other duties pertaining to the Health Careers Program as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and legislation pertaining to Regional Occupational Programs.
- Knowledge of rules, regulations and legislation pertaining to Title 22 and CNA programs.
- Valid California Registered Nurses Licensure.
- Minimum of Five Years Nursing experience.
- One-year experience working in either/or extended care unit, geriatrics department, chronic care unit, hospice, or other long-term care setting.
- Ability to implement and enforce student discipline policies.
- Ability to provide leadership to others.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, recommendations, and proposals utilizing Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations.

- Requires ability to hear at close proximity (up to five feet) and at a distance (up to twenty feet); clarity of vision at varying distances; and verbal and written communication in an articulate manner.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid California Teaching Credential Desired (authorizing teaching at the secondary level and/or designated subjects career technical education credential at the high school level).
- Possession of a valid California Registered Nurses Licensure.
- One (1) year of experience as a licensed nurse providing direct patient care in a long term care facility in addition to one (1) year of experience planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs in nursing (DSD); or
- (2) Two years of full time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one year of which must be in the provision of direct patient care in a nursing facility. Within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program, the Director of Staff Development or Instructor shall obtain a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education courses in planning, implementing and evaluation educational programs in nursing. These must either be courses approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or courses administered by an accredited educational institution. A transcript of successfully completed courses shall be sent to the Department and shall be used as a basis for approval of the qualifications of the Director of Staff Development or Instructor. A copy of the transcript shall be kept on file at the nursing facility, agency or public educational institution.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
COMPENSATION
Appropriate placement on Certificated Management Salary Schedule. 80 workdays/year. Retirement benefits are accrued through State Teachers Retirement System (STRS).Non-Discrimination
