Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health and Safety Manager to join Stuart Dean. This critical role ensures workplace safety and compliance across all projects and locations while minimizing risks to employees and operations. Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, you will lead the development and implementation of health and safety policies and initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and manage compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations. Additionally, this role encompasses responsibilities for workers compensation and fleet management to support organizational efficiency and operational excellence.

Responsibilities
Health and Safety:
- Develop and Implement Safety Policies: Create and enforce health and safety policies to establish a culture of safety at Stuart Dean.
- Ensure all employees follow all personal safety precautions (hardhats, protective goggles, etc.)
- Safety Training: Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks.
- Comply with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines. Submit all required OSHA filings. Collaborate within the company to stop any acts or processes which are unsafe or do not comply with OHSA guidelines.
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and maintain emergency response plans to ensure preparedness for potential incidents.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Evaluate local office practices procedures and local operations to assess risk and ensure adherence to compliance with policies and laws.
- Safety Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure that safety measures are in place.
- Safety Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to safety, including inspection findings and reports that suggest improvements.
- Employee Engagement: Engage with employees to promote a positive health and safety culture and ensure their involvement in safety initiatives.
Workers Compensation:
- Workers’ Compensation Case Management: Oversee and manage all aspects of workers’ compensation claims, ensuring timely reporting, thorough investigation, and effective resolution in partnership with our Insurance carrier and third-party administrator.
- Claims Analysis and Reporting: Regularly review and analyze workers’ compensation claims data to identify trends, assess the effectiveness of safety measures, and recommend adjustments to reduce incident rates.
- Return-to-Work Program Coordination: Collaborate with HR as required to develop and implement return-to-work programs for injured employees, facilitating their safe and efficient reintegration into the workplace in collaboration with medical providers and our insurance carrier and third-party administrator.
- Fraud Prevention and Investigation: Monitor and investigate all injury claims to protect the company from fraudulent workers’ compensation claims, ensuring integrity and compliance throughout the process.
- Employee Communication and Support: Serve as the primary point of contact with local offices for injured employees, providing guidance on workers’ compensation procedures, benefits, and return-to-work expectations, while maintaining clear communication with our Insurance Broker and third-party adjusters.
- Safety Training and Prevention Programs: Collaborate with safety teams to develop and deliver training programs aimed at reducing workplace injuries and associated workers’ compensation claims, utilizing insights gained from claims data analysis.
Fleet Management
- Fleet Operations Oversight: Serve as the primary escalation point for day-to-day fleet management issues unresolved at the local level.
- Vendor Collaboration: Collaborate with external fleet management companies for annual program reviews.
- Strategic Planning: Provide senior leadership with recommendations on vehicle purchases and allocations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in health and safety management, with a proven track record in developing and implementing safety policies and procedures.
- Certifications: OSHA-30 Certification (or ability to complete certification).
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field preferred, but not required.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of OSHA CFR 1926 and 1910 safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Analytical Skills: Proven ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and training skills to motivate and educate employees.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability and comfort with administration of safety management software.
- Documentation Skills: Ability to prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate safety-related documentation.
- Industry Awareness: Up-to-date with industry trends, safety procedures, and safety technologies.
